Laurel Village volunteers joined the High Street Coalition (https://www.highstcoalition.org/) with an important step to transform the High Street off-ramp into a garden, donating a rain barrel and planters for the project.
Thanks to the Oakland Fire Department and Councilmember Taylor for helping to fill the rain barrel, and to Councilmember Thao for joining and supporting the clean up.
Great work by the High Street Coalition for their work in making Oakland a better place.

Happy winter solstice!
Winter is for planting and the LVA has been busy. We planted an olive tree next to Laurel Elementary, three spineless yuccas on the 35th Ave median near Kansas, and two aloe bunches and a century plant or two at the Laurel Art Garden.

The History of The Laurel Village Association--”Neighbors Building Community”

Laurel Village Association (LVA) is incorporated as a 501 (c) (3) all-volunteer neighborhood association focused on improving the life of residents in the Laurel District of Oakland, CA. Anyone who lives, works, shops or plays in the neighborhood is welcome and encouraged to attend and participate at association meetings and organized activities. Some typical activities include beautification of public spaces (medians, freeway on ramps, Peralta creek, graffiti abatement), social events/activities (block parties, evenings out, neighborhood garage sales), and communication/liaising with business and government officials. Planning and organizing our booth at The Annual Laurel Street Fair in August each year.

Recent projects have included the District 4 Council seat forum in October 2010, 2014 and the Laurel Art Garden.

In 2004 the LVA set-up and continues to maintain the Laurel Village Yahoo listserv as an open forum among the listserv subscribers. Anyone who lives, works, shops or plays in the neighborhood can become a subscriber.
