Hi, I’m Gissel! 😄

CAPS has given me a chance to learn by doing hands-on work in my school district, and I want more students to get that experience, too.

🌱 We were honored to welcome California Energy Commission Chair and CAPS advisor David Hochschild at SF Climate Week! 🌟

David Hochschild has spent his career advancing clean energy in public service, environmental advocacy, and the private sector, helping launch a $100 million solar initiative and leading statewide energy work in California.

David’s support for CAPS means so much as we expand paid, hands-on climate career pathways for students across California. We are grateful for his continued partnership and belief in CAPS students.

“For me personally, CAPS has shown me that climate action isn't abstract. It's practical, local, and something that students can lead right now,” CAPS intern Maddison says. ❇️

In her own words, CAPS gives students the chance to lead climate work now, from energy audits and waste reduction to cleaner buildings and transportation planning.

Students in under-resourced communities are often closest to the impacts of pollution and climate change. Maddison’s perspective makes clear why student leadership belongs at the center of climate solutions.

Educational Facility Master Plans help school districts align long-term facilities decisions with student learning, building conditions, community needs, and future growth. ✏️

This resource guide from the National Center on School Infrastructure brings together planning tools, examples, and frameworks for K-12 districts making decisions about school buildings and long-term facilities needs.

Featured resources include:
• Planning guidance from the National Center on School Infrastructure on education specifications, community engagement, and long-term facilities needs
• Evaluation tools from the 21st Century School Fund to help districts assess whether facilities plans support high-quality public schools
• Real-world examples from public school districts, including Boston Public Schools, Baltimore City Public Schools, and Chicago Public Schools

Resources like this connect directly to the school infrastructure decisions that shape healthier, more resilient learning environments for students. ➡️ Read the full guide to educational master planning here: https://buff.ly/zeasFH7

Nearly $194 million in California school HVAC funding could help districts improve indoor air quality, reduce heat-related disruptions, and keep classrooms safer during extreme weather. ☀️

The CalSHAPE program was created to support heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and plumbing systems in schools. But unless state leaders act, remaining funds could be returned instead of going to school communities that still need upgrades.

Extreme heat, outages, and weather-related closures are already disrupting learning across California. As of 2025, public safety power shut-offs increased by 145%. Of the 60,000 students who were absent from school due to extreme weather, 17,000 were in San Bernardino County.

⚡️ 🪫 When students miss school due to power shutoffs or outages, the burden often falls hardest on communities with fewer resources to adapt.

Sign this form to urge California lawmakers to extend the existing program and give the funds to schools that need them: https://buff.ly/RKLVwSn
