Special Olympics changes lives by providing year-round sports training and competition for individuals with intellectual disabilities. It is training for life.

https://linktr.ee/Sosc_tricounties Special Olympics is more than a sports program for people with intellectual disabilities. Special Olympics athletes are five times more likely to hold a job than the general population of people with intellectual disabilities. They are also more physically fit, have more friends, and learn to set goals for themselves.

As students head back to school, from elementary classrooms to college campuses, a troubling trend continues. Research shows that 92% of young people who have heard the “R-word” say they first heard it used as a slur.

Through its Spread the Word campaign, Special Olympics is working to change that by encouraging more respectful and inclusive language. Andrea Cahn, Senior Vice President of Unified Champion Schools, joined Melissa in the Morning to talk about the campaign, what the data tells us, and how schools can help create more welcoming environments for all students.
