Together, watching over each other, we can ensure that this Halloween is a safe one! 1) Carve safely, or not at all, 2) Beware of fire hazards - candles, jack-o-lanterns, etc., 3) Make costumes safe - avoid trips and falls, and masks that limit peripheral vision, 4) Be seen on the streets, 5) Be alert at the wheel - kids run out into the street, 6) Avoid alcohol, 7) Don't be distracted, 8) Stick together, and 9) Inspect candy at home. United, we can have fun and be safe!

California's FYTC (Foster Youth Tax Credit), the first of its kind in the nation, has put more than $17 million into the hands of over 16,000 current and former foster youth. That money goes to rent, groceries, textbooks and a little breathing room. But only about 15% of eligible youth are claiming it. Many young people still don't know the credit exists, and preparers often miss it. Let’s make sure those eligible are aware of the credit and have their return prepared at a VITA site or self-filing with MyFreeTaxes.org

The Homeless Prevention Program helps low income households on the brink of losing their housing. It functions as a preventative barrier, pairing short-term financial aid with long-term housing navigation to ensure vulnerable families, seniors, and veterans don't fall into the shelter system. Highly successful at securing permanent housing for over 400 individuals, the program maintains a 97.4% housing retention rate. Participants MUST be Ventura County Residents to register for the program. Call to check your eligibility today (805) 485-6288 X235 or visit us online at UnitedToEndHomelessnessvc.org.

Last week we held our first Building Healthy Smiles dental screening of the school year! We were excited to visit Rio Lindo Elementary in Oxnard. In partnership with Ventura County Public Health, Olga, a dental hygienist from Sugarbug Dental and our new dental partner Oso Pediatric Dentistry, we provided 83 kindergartners and 3rd graders with oral health education, dental screenings, and fluoride varnish applications. United is the way to maximum impact!
