Important Update for the Special Education Community! ‼️💬

This week, the Administration announced plans that could shift oversight of federal special education programs from the U.S. Department of Education to the Department of Health and Human Services.

For more than 50 years, IDEA has helped ensure that students with disabilities have access to a free, appropriate public education, individualized supports, and meaningful opportunities to succeed. As an education law, IDEA was designed to keep educational opportunity, inclusion, and student achievement at the center of federal policy.

NAPSEC is deeply concerned that moving special education oversight outside the Department of Education could create unnecessary fragmentation, weaken coordination, and impact the services, supports, and accountability that students, families, educators, and providers rely on.

Now is the time to make your voice heard. Contact your lawmakers and urge them to protect IDEA and preserve the Department of Education's role in supporting students with disabilities.

Collaboration across the NAPSEC community! ✨

ScenicView Academy recently hosted the National Autism Symposium in northern Georgia, creating an opportunity for a special visit with the fellow NAPSEC member program, Trousdale School, in Cleveland, Tennessee.

These moments of connection are what make the NAPSEC network so valuable—bringing member programs together to share ideas, strengthen collaboration, and learn from one another in support of students and families.

Thank you to both ScenicView Academy and Trousdale School for fostering meaningful partnerships and innovation in education. 💙

June is Pride Month! 🌈✨

Every student deserves to feel safe, supported, and seen for who they are.

Inclusive school communities help students thrive — academically, socially, and emotionally. For LGBTQ+ students with disabilities, affirming environments and supportive educators can make a lasting difference in mental health, confidence, and belonging.

This month and every month, we celebrate inclusion, acceptance, and the importance of creating spaces where all students feel valued. 🤗

Myth vs. Fact! ⁉️👀

Myth: IEPs lower expectations for students.

Fact: IEPs provide the individualized supports students need to meet high expectations and reach their full potential.

IEPs are designed to remove barriers—not limit possibilities. 🤝🏻

Transition planning is more than a checklist—it’s a roadmap for the future! 🗺️👀

For students with disabilities, effective planning supports success beyond the classroom, including education, employment, and independent living. Thoughtful transition planning helps students build skills, confidence, and clear goals for what comes next. ✨
