A pet can be much more than a companion — they can be family, comfort and a constant source of unconditional love 🐾 With an estimated 20–25% of people experiencing homelessness having a pet, access to veterinary care can make a meaningful difference for both pets and the people who love them. That’s why, in 2017, the Lucky Duck Foundation purchased the Pets Without Walls for Helen Woodward Animal Center vehicle to bring essential veterinary services directly to pets throughout San Diego’s homeless community.

Since then, Pets Without Walls has made nearly 250 visits to homeless shelters and helped more than 3,200 animals receive vaccines, spay and neuter services, microchipping and other important care 🐶🐱

Recently, our friend Mark “Mud” Grant, the “MLB Broadcaster Guy,” joined Pets Without Walls for a visit to the Alpha Project in downtown San Diego to see this incredible work firsthand.

The Lucky Ducklings from The Bishop’s School recently joined us at Veterans Village of San Diego to roll up their sleeves and pack 750 meals for our unsheltered neighbors throughout San Diego.

These meals provide more than nourishment. When distributed by our outreach partners, food and water can help create meaningful connections with people living on the streets and open the door to supportive services and pathways toward stability.

We’re grateful to these young volunteers for sharing their time, energy and compassion with our community! 💛

We’re proud to celebrate the grand opening of Bethel One, YIGBY’s first affordable housing development, created in partnership with Bethel AME Church in Logan Heights 🏡 Several years ago, the Lucky Duck Foundation provided seed funding to help launch the YIGBY pilot program and its innovative approach to transforming underutilized faith-based land into much-needed affordable housing. Today, that vision has become a reality: 26 new permanent homes, including 16 for veterans and 10 for seniors.

A special thank you to Bethel AME Church, YIGBY, and everyone who helped bring this project to life, including Humble Design San Diego which beautifully furnished all 16 veterans’ homes. Bethel One is YIGBY’s first project — and we’re excited to see what comes next as this model creates even more opportunities for housing throughout our community.

Congratulations to everyone who made this milestone possible. Together, we can continue creating pathways to safe, stable housing for San Diegans 🍀

Chelsea’s story is a powerful reminder of what can happen when determination meets opportunity.

After years of addiction, incarceration, and simply trying to survive, Chelsea made the decision to change the direction of her life. She found Rise Up Industries, where she found more than job training — she found people who believed in her, a community that supported her, and an opportunity to build a future she once didn’t think was possible.

Today, Chelsea is learning CNC machining, developing valuable career skills, and redefining what comes next on her own terms.

The Lucky Duck Foundation is proud to support Rise Up Industries and its work creating pathways to employment, stability, and self-sufficiency for individuals rebuilding their lives after incarceration.
