YAAANA promotes Yiddish scholarship, literature (including women writers), theater, opera, and various genres of music, through academic and artistic events that include Yiddish food. The need YAAANA addresses is for community building through Yiddish culture and preservati
on of heritage. YAAANA will reach several target audiences including engaging students and faculty of the University of California, San Diego and San Diego State University, as well as local artists and Jewish community members, through Yiddish academic and artistic activities such as movie screenings, lectures, workshops, and concerts. YAAANA events are designed for a multigenerational audience and are aimed at preservation and advancement of Yiddishkeit but they will also fulfill the social good of creating meaningful and deeper opportunities for community engagement. We would like to ensure the programs are free of charge to ensure they are accessible to all. By promoting creation and appreciation of Yiddish works, we hope to be able to pass on a vibrant Yiddish culture to the next generation.
