For patients with a hip accelerated surgery was thought to improve outcomes. This widely held belief was tested in a carefully done clinical trial published in The Lancet. Median surgery time of 6 hours had similar complication rate to standard care median time of 24 hours.

Among patients with a hip fracture, accelerated surgery did not significantly lower the risk of mortality or a composite of major complications compared with standard care.
