Try not to confuse your royalty ๐ this Winged Wednesday - weโre featuring the Queen Butterfly! ๐ฆ
If you thought it was a monarch at first, we wouldnโt blame you ๐โโ๏ธ With their wings closed, queens and monarchs look deceptively similar. And it doesnโt stop there, they even share the same host plant ๐ฑ - milkweed!
So how do you tell these two native pollinators apart? ๐ค Wait for them to open their wings!
Monarchs are a brighter orange๐ง, and will have those iconic black veins on the tops of their wings. Queens lack โ๏ธ those black veins!
While chasing butterflies sounds fun, we do NOT ๐
encourage folks to try capturing or touching them - theyโre very delicate creatures! However, we do encourage photographs ๐ท and documenting your sightings on iNaturalist.
