💫 Behind every LUMI participant is a family whose future is being transformed.

At our final Latina Upward Mobility Initiative (LUMI) program session, participants reflected on the growth, challenges, and victories that shaped their journeys throughout the program. They shared stories of finding their voice, rebuilding confidence, pursuing educational and career goals, and believing in themselves in ways they had not before. For many, LUMI became a space where they felt seen, supported, and encouraged to dream bigger for themselves and their futures.

The impact of this journey extends into homes, workplaces, and communities across San Diego. When a mother gains confidence, her family witnesses what is possible. When a woman pursues a new opportunity, she expands what future generations can imagine for themselves. When Latinas are equipped with the tools, support, and community to thrive, they create lasting change that reaches far beyond a single individual. These are the moments that remind us why this work matters. Every goal pursued, every barrier overcome, and every voice strengthened has the power to influence a family for years to come. 🙌

As we celebrate the conclusion of this LUMI cohort, we honor the courage, resilience, and determination of every participant who entrusted us with a part of their journey. The impact you create does not end here. It continues with every step forward, every door opened, and every dream pursued.

🎓️ Next comes graduation! We look forward to celebrating these remarkable LUMI moms and all they have accomplished later this month! 🎉

👩‍💻 Public service starts with people who are ready to make a difference.

At our May Hermanitas Seminar, students explored how their leadership, voice, and passion for community can create impact through careers in public service.

Hosted at the Live Well San Diego Center, the seminar brought together Hermanitas, mentors, families, and community leaders. Participants heard from public service professionals, including Miriam Maldonado, Christine Lafontant, Venus Molina, and Brenda Lemas, who shared their experiences serving and strengthening communities.

The highlight of the day was an interactive community challenge where Hermanitas worked in teams to develop creative solutions to real-world issues. The activity sparked thoughtful discussions, innovative ideas, and confident leadership as students presented their solutions and perspectives.

Throughout the seminar, one message stood out: our Hermanitas already have the talent, determination, and vision to create change. By connecting with women working in public service, they gained new insight into the many ways they can turn that passion into action and expand their impact.

Thank you to the County of San Diego Southeastern Live Well Center, our panelists, mentors, families, and the Hermanitas Leadership Team for helping create an engaging experience that encouraged our students to lead, collaborate, and imagine new possibilities for serving their communities. 🙌

Today we honor Memorial Day as a time of remembrance for those who gave their lives in service. Their sacrifice reflects courage and bravery, and it is carried forward by families who continue to live with absence while holding on to memory, love, and meaning.

In honoring those who served and those who were lost, we also recognize the families and communities who carry their stories forward every day. Memory is preserved through care, through storytelling, and through the responsibility to ensure that these lives are not forgotten or reduced to history alone.

In this continuity, we see the strength of communities like ours, where legacy is not only remembered, but lived through the work of building opportunity, dignity, and belonging for generations to come.

On this Memorial Day, we recognize the sacrifices and quiet courage within our communities, those who have fought in service, those who have defended freedom, and those who have worked across generations to build safer, more just, and more hopeful futures for their families.

We honor all who have carried that fight forward, and we hold their contributions as part of the broader story of service, resilience, and collective strength that shapes our communities today.
