Last week, a pellet gun was found on campus by other students at Golden Hill K-8 school. While our school counselor is doing everything in her power to address this situation, others in leadership are ignoring it completely. Here are some things that happened:
1. School police declined to interview students or even be present while the counselor interviewed them
2. The substitute Principal only notified middle school staff and parents about the incident, even though many elementary school grades share the same floor as the middle school.
3. The school police still refused to investigate
4. The current principal won’t even acknowledge a crime as committed. It is illegal to bring fi****ms to school campus and this includes pellet guns.
Why we are concerned:
Any firearm found on school property should be fully investigated. We have a school gun violence problem in this country. How many school shootings have been analyzed and warning signs been uncovered that were ignored?
This pellet gun incident could have been a test run for something more sinister. If that’s the case, so far they have succeeded and are emboldened to take the next step.
We have no way of knowing if we don’t investigate.
