Please join us in welcoming Michael Carter as Chairman of the Board of Directors for Warrior Foundation Freedom Station!

A retired Marine Corps officer with 26 years of service, Carter brings a wealth of military leadership, operational experience, and a deep commitment to Warrior care.

During his distinguished career, he served as a helicopter pilot and space operations officer, with deployments to the Balkan Peninsula, Iraq, and Afghanistan. He also served as the Officer-in-Charge of the Balboa Detachment of Wounded Warrior Battalion-West at Naval Medical Center San Diego.

Carter has served on the Warrior Foundation Freedom Station Board of Directors for more than three years and is excited to take the helm.

“The Warrior Foundation, with its Freedom Station housing model, has long held an important place for me with respect to Warrior care and transition. Embarking on this opportunity to serve as the chair of its board of directors is nothing short of an honor, but also a solemn duty, as we endeavor to chart a path across this ever-evolving landscape,” said Carter.

“Mike’s leadership comes at an important time for Warrior Foundation Freedom Station as the organization continues to expand its programs and respond to the evolving needs of medically retiring and transitioning service members. Mike’s experience in Warrior care, his military leadership, and his understanding of the transition our Warriors face make him an exceptional choice to lead our Board,” said Andrew Gasper, CEO of Warrior Foundation Freedom Station. “His commitment to those who have served our country is genuine and deeply rooted in his own experience. We are fortunate to have him take on this important role.”

We are honored to have Michael Carter serve as Chairman as we continue our mission to support our nation’s most seriously ill and injured Warriors through recovery, transition, and beyond.

Our Warriors had a spooktacular night carving pumpkins, enjoying pizza, and most importantly, spending time together at Freedom Station I.

A big THANK YOU to our intern, Serena, for creating such a fun night for our Warriors!

🇺🇸 REMEMBERING BEIRUT: THEY CAME IN PEACE

We remember the 241 U.S. service members who lost their lives in the Beirut barracks bombing on October 23, 1983, while serving in a peacekeeping mission.

A su***de bomber drove a truck loaded with approximately 12,000 pounds of explosives into the U.S. Marine barracks in Beirut, Lebanon, killing 220 Marines, 18 Navy sailors, and 3 Army soldiers.

Among those serving in Beirut was Brian Kirkpatrick (bottom row, center), a combat engineer attached to "C" Company, 1st Battalion, 8th Marines, 24th Marine Amphibious Unit. Brian and his squad, known as Kirk's Knights, were photographed during peacekeeping operations in Beirut in 1983.

Brian is a survivor of the 1983 Marine Barracks bombing.

Today, we honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice, remember their families, and recognize the courage of those who served and survived.

They will never be forgotten. 🇺🇸

Happy Birthday to the USS Essex! ⚓🇺🇸

Warrior Foundation proudly honors the USS Essex (LHD-2) and the Sailors and Marines who have served aboard this remarkable ship. We were lucky enough to get a tour of the Essex, and WOW, is it amazing! Seeing this incredible ship up close and getting a glimpse of the people and operations behind the mission was truly an unforgettable experience.

DID YOU KNOW? The USS Essex received the Presidential Unit Citation and 13 battle stars for her World War II service. She also earned four battle stars and the Navy Unit Commendation for her gallant service during the Korean War.

Thank you to all who have served aboard the USS Essex, and to everyone who has volunteered with us over the years!

A MUST-SEE 2026 AWARD-WINNING FEATURE DOCUMENTARY! 🇺🇸

Our Warriors, staff, and residents were proud and honored to attend the San Diego International Film Festival screening of Sum Function, a powerful documentary highlighting the strength, resilience, and determination of athletes living with significant disabilities.

With a Q&A session following the screening, along with opportunities to meet the featured athletes and show our love and support for this incredible film, it was quite a night!

Sum Function follows a group of teammates and friends, each living with impairments, as they navigate challenges that extend far beyond the wheelchair rugby court. In the aftermath of tragedy, they search for purpose, connection, and a renewed sense of possibility while fighting for greater accessibility in a world not always built for them.

We are especially proud to celebrate this film because of its connection to the Oscar Mike Foundation, founded by Marine Corps veteran Noah Currier. Oscar Mike is dedicated to keeping injured veterans “On-the-Move” through adaptive sports, recreation, and community. Featured in Sum Function, the Oscar Mike Militia is the nation’s only all-veteran wheelchair rugby team.

Thank you to everyone who brought this important story to the screen and continues to show how adaptive sports can build confidence, connection, and a renewed sense of purpose. 🇺🇸

Coast to Coast, Helping Our Warriors Dress for Success! 🇺🇸

From North Carolina to San Diego to Virginia, our nationwide Dress for Success events were a tremendous success! Together with our amazing retail partners and military supporters, we helped Warriors prepare for their next chapter beyond military service.

Thanks to the generosity of our partners, we were proud to serve these service members preparing for medical retirement from active duty:
