In conjunction with a grant from San Diego County Health and Human Services, Harmonium has started the Youth Entrepreneurship Program for transition age youth. Transition Age Youth, or TAY,
include kids between the ages of 14 to 24 years old, who are transitioning into adulthood. Through the Entrepreneurship Program, youth will be offered the opportunity to learn and grow within the business world allowing them to gain real world experience. Harmonium’s award winning program has proven to be a successful and innovative way to teach youth about small business while allowing the youth to gain real world employment. The Youth Entrepreneurship Program, using the Junior Achievement curriculum, teaches youth the benefits of owning and the work necessary to maintain your own business. Throughout the program the youth will be offered the opportunity to start their own business, sell stock within the business, create and deliver marketing campaign, and ultimately make real money. By holding all the executive positions and determining their own salaries, youth will learn the intricacies of business and the skills needed to ensure a business’s survival in an economy where entrepreneurship and small business is one of the leading forms of employment. Last year Harmonium entered the youth company Re-Boxed into the Junior Achievement Best Company Competition. Re-Boxed specialized in making shadowboxes, a three-dimensional photo frames that held photos and memorabilia attached to photos. Re-Boxed placed first in the San Diego County competition and travelled to Washington DC to compete nationally. Harmonium has placed nationally for two years and your youth company can be the next company to represent San Diego youth.
