In Spring of 2025, we did a massive intake of what ended up being well over 100 nearly-identical rats, who were breeding out of control in a trailer in Morongo. It is typically harder to find homes for identical groupings of animals, as people like to tell them apart and have variety in colors - so it took some time to find them all amazing homes.
Recently, three of the boys from that rescue were returned to the rescue. We knew it would be even trickier to get them adopted out this time, due to their age and identical looks. But something amazing happened today!
A longtime Wee supporter with a heart of gold (who doesn’t mind five nearly-identical boys), came in for a bonding. She and her husband already had two of their family members - It was a beautiful family reunion! Morongo Baby Boys 12, 15, and 16 - joining 7 and 8! 🥹😍🥰 It was a great day today.

Adoption update!
Syrian hamster Meadow is happily settled into her new home. Now named Busy Bee or just Busy she is thriving with excellent care and interaction.
Meadow’s mom was abandoned in a park and was taken to a local shelter where she gave birth. Pregnant animals or new borns put a huge stress on local shelters with limited resources. Wee Companions took mama in with her pinkies and the rest is history… or at least a string of happy adoption photos!!

Our rescue is being flooded with requests to take in animals.
Our ability to intake is based on space at our shelter, availability of foster homes and yes financial stability.
When an adopter applies to adopt an animal, that application is screened and may involve multiple calls or texts prior to confirming an appointment.
Animals may be selected ahead of time , brought in that day for the appointment or held back that day from other requests.
Appointments are arranged based on our experienced adoption team being on site.
Intakes are “ juggled” based on potential space available from adoption appointments.
We understand emergencies happen, cars break down or plans change. We know that despite confirmed adoption appointments a trip to Petsmart or Petco can change all that.
Our request is to notify our team as soon as you know you will not make the appointment. It may mean a foster is not driving an animal to the appointment then driving back to pick it up. It means we can squeeze in a last minute appointment or “ walk in”. We are informed and we can regroup and go about our bussiness of adoption that day.
A curtesy message to say “we wont be coming today, need to reschedule”, or “we have changed our minds and wish to cancel” is all that it takes to let us know whats going on instead of silence.
