As Assistant Chief Deputy County Counsel for the County of San Diego - Government, Melissa is passionate about mentorship and helping others reach their potential. For more than two years, she has shared her time and expertise with JA Fellows students at Chula Vista Learning Community Charter, helping them explore career pathways, build connections, and envision new possibilities for their futures.

Beyond JA, Melissa mentors attorneys and law students and has served on the Boards of the Federal Bar Association, San Diego Chapter, the Afghan Refugee Empowerment Fund, and the San Diego Federal Bar Foundation. Her commitment to guiding the next generation makes a lasting impact.

⚽️💙 What a milestone!

We're thrilled to celebrate 500,000 points earned through the Goals Go Further program, made possible by the incredible partnership between Alaska Airlines, San Diego Wave FC, and JA San Diego.

This season, every Wave FC goal has helped drive impact beyond the field, creating opportunities for local students to build the financial literacy, career readiness, and entrepreneurial skills they need to own their economic success.

A huge thank you to Alaska Airlines and San Diego Wave FC for their commitment to investing in the next generation and proving that together, goals truly do go further.

Last night, the 2026 class of Lifetime Laureates was inducted into the San Diego Business Hall of Fame, honoring their dedication and commitment to transforming and uplifting the San Diego community.

Congratulations to Rudolph A. Johnson, III, President & CEO of Neighborhood House Association, and Ben & Nikki Clay, philanthropists and founders of Clay Company.

Held inside McGrath Family JA BizTown, the evening also celebrated the program’s 20th anniversary! Thank you to Laurie McGrath and everyone who helped bring this mini-city to life and create meaningful learning opportunities for students across the region to explore careers, build real-world skills, and imagine new possibilities for their futures.

We also heard from a JA alum whose journey with JA San Diego spanned both JA BizTown and JA Fellows, sharing how these experiences shaped their academic and career aspirations and encouraged them to envision new possibilities for their future.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for this inspiring evening and showed their support through our paddle raise. Your support helps create more opportunities for the next generation of leaders.

This fall semester, JA Fellows are gaining firsthand insights into the world of work through a variety of career exploration experiences, discovering new possibilities and learning about different career paths.

Thanks to American Medical Response - San Diego County (AMR), JA Fellows at Chula Vista Learning Community Charter had the opportunity to hear directly from emergency services professionals and learn more about careers in healthcare. Experiences like these help students connect what they’re learning today to the opportunities they can pursue in the future.

A day at the ballpark to remember! ⚾️💙

In partnership with the Fernando Tatis Full Count Foundation, JA Fellows had an unforgettable day at Petco Park. Fellows went behind the scenes, met some of the San Diego Padres players, and got an inside look at the team they cheer on. For some, it was even their first professional baseball game!

Experiences like these give young people the chance to build connections, explore new possibilities, and access opportunities that can shape their futures.
