San Diego has the lowest firefighter per capita staffing of any big city in the country; our response times are slow; our firefighters are at the bottom of the salary table of the 23 cities that the City of San Diego uses as comparisons.

We aren’t going to improve this situation with more of the same.

That’s why we’ve endorsed the following non-incumbent candidates – those who will never take firefighters’ service for granted.

Councilmember Foster says we are “misinformed” -- so let’s set the record straight about Station 51.

Not a single penny in the budget since Councilmember Foster took office towards a permanent Fire Station 51, DESPITE him serving as the budget chair.

Other projects were funded in that time. Clearly, this is a matter of priorities.

Firefighters don’t get to choose the emergency.

One week, we have extreme 100+ degree heat and elevated wildfire danger. The next, it’s heavy rain, flood risk, and a completely different set of challenges.

Through it all, our firefighters continue to answer the call, demonstrating incredible skill, professionalism, and dedication to the communities they serve.

We’re proud of our members and the extraordinary work they do every day, often under incredibly difficult circumstances.

The busiest border crossing in the world is in District 8.

New data from an IAFF analysis of 2020-2024 data shows the impact on our neighborhoods: significantly higher call volumes at the Port of Entry.

That’s why IAFF analysts have identified San Ysidro as the number one neighborhood citywide in need of additional firefighters, paramedics, and EMT resources.

San Ysidro residents deserve better.
