⚠️🚨 Union Retirement Alert- Demy Riley 🚨⚠️
Today we helped celebrate the retirement of Union Brother DeMott “Demy” Riley, a 23 year member and Hazardous Substance Specialist at San Diego Gas & Electric! Brother Demy was celebrated today by his peers and his friends for his decades of service and dedication to the utility industry!
Demy was born September 28th 1956 and graduated from Long Beach State with a Bachelors degree in Marketing. In high-school and in college Demy played Rugby for years as the “fly half” which is the main playmaker and tactical kicker in the backfield. After college he worked at the LA Times for 20 years before layoffs in the early 2000’s brought him and his wife here to San Diego where he applied to SDG&E at the age of 47.
Demy was hired as a fleet assistant, worked as a skilled SDG&E diver for a period and then moved into Hazmat where he finished his career as a skilled Hazardous Substance Specialist. Today his union siblings shared stories of his unmatched work ethic, dedication, and commitment to our customers. He was someone you could always count on, he would always be there for you, and will be missed by everyone.
We asked him what he will miss most and what advice he has for us and he shared “I’m going to miss you guys. I’m going to miss the camaraderie, the stories from everyone. We spend so much time together we get so close like family. Advice - try every opportunity that comes your way. It’s a big comapny with hundreds of different jobs, try them out and find one you like. We have endless opportunities here.”
In retirement Demy and his wife are going to travel, with planned trips to Hawaii and Micronesia, go to Scotland and Europe; and spend more time diving. We want to say THANK YOU Brother Riley for your decades of sacrifice, all your incredible hard work and your relentless work ethic over your 23 year career! We will miss you!
