On August 28th, Joel Gomez, a LIUNA Local 89 union brother, lost his life due to a worksite incident.

This is a tragic loss for our labor family and serves as an stark reminder of the many dedicated workers that never made it home at the end of their shift.

Joel is survived by his three sisters, brother, and parents. His family now faces the heartbreaking task of getting his affairs together and providing him the proper sendoff that he deserves.

After a transparent process in accordance with state law, I’m confident this project will deliver thousands of new affordable homes, a new world-class arena, and more. This is consistent with my vision for the property as well as the priorities I've heard from San Diegans.
