A behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to bring the Doan Gala to life. From three days of physical setup to the moments backstage during the event, this is just a glimpse into the months of work behind one evening.
The Doan Gala is our only fundraiser of the year, so we don't skimp on the details. We want it to feel like an experience while keeping it accessible to the very community we serve. We want it to feel elevated without feeling exclusive. Inspiring without feeling intimidating. A room where the artists, students, families, donors, community leaders, and first-time guests we serve all feel like they belong.
What many people don't realize is how much is done in-house. Our board isn't just making decisions in meetings. They're hanging lights, building the stage, running sound, programming lighting, moving tables, checking guests in, coordinating volunteers, and yes... even preparing some of the food. Everyone wears whatever hat needs to be worn.
Aspiring filmmaker Trang Truong generously spent the day capturing these moments from 2 PM until the end of the night. Years from now, I think these clips will feel like old home videos, reminding us of the people behind it all.
This is our world.
