We had an incredible time celebrating our 9th Annual Christmas Party, and our hearts (and stomachs) are full of gratitude and joy. What started years ago as a simple gathering has grown into a cherished tradition filled with laughter, connection, and unforgettable memories.

💚 To every group member: thank you for showing up year after year with your holiday spirit, generosity, and good vibes. This celebration wouldn’t be what it is without each of you.

🙏🏽 A Special thanks to our amazing host Ori Salame, mother of Roxanne Ramos, for making everyone feel so welcome. Your hospitality and compassion truly make this celebration extra special each year.

Voting is one of the most powerful ways we can shape the future of our communities. For many people with disabilities, mail-in or absentee voting can make the process more accessible, safe, and convenient ensuring that every voice counts without barriers.

✅ Make sure to complete and return your ballot early to avoid delays.
✅ Encourage friends and family to do the same accessibility and inclusion start with awareness!

And while the conference was mini the advocacy was HUGE! 🙌🏽 Thank you again to all those who worked to make this conference happen. 🙏🏽 Thank you to the presenters and members for sharing your stories and empowering others to achieve what they want in life while helping others along the way. 🙏🏽 And an extra thank to Jersey Mike's Subs & The Mermaid Cafe for the delicious sandwiches and cookies. 🙏🏽 Fuel for us to fight on! 💪🏽

🤩 Today marks the start of Disability Pride Month! This year's theme, set by The Arc's National Council of Self Advocates is "We Belong Here, and We’re Here to Stay." What are you proud of? Tell us in the comments!

Why we celebrate:
Disability Pride Month is a time to recognize the history, achievements, experiences, and struggles of people with disabilities. It affirms that disability is a natural and valuable part of human diversity—not a deficit or condition to be fixed.

More than 1 in 4 adults in the United States—over 70 million people—have a disability. This month calls on everyone to promote inclusion and ensure people with disabilities are accepted exactly as they are, without conditions.

Disability Pride Month is an annual observance in July that celebrates people with disabilities, commemorates the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and promotes disability culture and visibility.

SALSA is proud to present the man, the myth, the legend, CHARLIE! 😎

We are honored to share Charlie’s story and continue using our platform to share stories like his. Together we can. 🙌🏽

Charlie is a member of Texas Advocates, a leading nonprofit operated by and for people with disabilities. Our mission is to stop unfair treatment and to advocate for more and better services and supports, including the right to live in the communities of their choice.

Charlie is a determined advocate for disability rights and made it a priority to attend the Texas Legislature bi-annual sessions regularly. His advocacy efforts may change from in-person meetings with legislators to virtual meetings; it remains to be seen. In the interim, Charlie continues his volunteer endeavors with his guardian Judith, working as peer-support specialists. Previously, they visited State Supported Living Centers once a month. Now, with Covid restrictions in place, they meet over video chat two times a week—an opportunity to work with more people, more often.

Texas Advocates unveils its first sustaining donor campaign—We Thrive. By pledging a gift as little as $5 per month, you help support Texans with disabilities who seek to live their lives with respect and with the advantages all citizens of our state receive.
