Today, on the 59th anniversary of the attack on the USS Liberty, Congressman Thomas Massie delivered a historic speech on the House floor honoring the survivors and the 34 American servicemen who lost their lives on June 8, 1967. He called attention to an event that many Americans know little about and urged that the sacrifices of the Liberty crew never be forgotten.

The USS Liberty crew remains one of the most decorated in U.S. naval history. During the attack, 34 Americans were killed and 174 were wounded. Survivors and their supporters continue to seek recognition, accountability, and a full understanding of what happened that day.

Rep. Thomas Massie honors the survivors and victims of the Israeli attack on the USS Liberty.

The Representative from Kentucky stood on the House floor and narrated the story of the USS Liberty which was attacked 59 years ago today by the Israeli military in the form of fighter jets, torpedo boats, and helicopters. The Israelis killed 34 U.S. service members and wounded 170 as they tried to sink the USS Liberty and kill everyone on board. The USS Liberty was an unarmed surveillance ship the Navy was using in the eastern Mediterranean Sea on June 8, 1967.
