We're honored to spotlight U.S. Bank Foundation as a partner of First Step House's Case Management Program.

Case management is the backbone of what we do. Each year, our case managers support more than 900 people navigating some of life's most complex challenges. From connecting clients to basic identification documents to employment support and housing applications, they provide the wraparound care people need to build lasting stability.

We're grateful to recognize First Electronic Bank for their generous support of our Medical Integration Program.

For many of the people we serve, healthcare has always been just out of reach. Barriers like lack of transportation and the instability of homelessness make even basic care feel impossible.

This program changes all of that. By connecting clients with primary and preventive care, chronic condition management, medication support, and specialist referrals from day one, we remove barriers and make healthcare achievable for the people who need it most.

Happy International Recovery Day! 💜

As Recovery Month comes to a close, we're looking back on a September where our community showed up in so many ways:

🏡 We opened KWB Apartments with Housing Connect and 50 volunteers made sure no one walked into an empty room
💜 We celebrated recovery with USARA - Utah Support Advocates for Recovery Awareness at Recovery Day 2026
🍦 Program of Addiction Research, Clinical Care, Knowledge, and Advocacy brought root b**r floats to our Rose Park campus
🎨 Conduent gave a group room a fresh coat of paint
🎒 Bank of Utah sent students back to school ready to learn
🎭 Hale Centre Theatre spotlighted our mission during Our Town, playing through October 19

Congratulations to Uplift Community Alliance on the opening of their new administrative building. 🎉

Yesterday, our team attended their open house, and we were awestruck by the breadth of their work. Uplift Community Alliance supports people at every stage of life, from students who need season-appropriate clothing and dental care to adults navigating a range of challenges. Their work touches countless corners of our community and makes Salt Lake County a better place to live.

Uplift Community Alliance is a generous supporter of First Step House. From welcome kits for new residents at KWB Apartments, to vouchers that help clients in our employment program get work-ready clothing and hygiene items, to holiday gifts for residents in our permanent supportive housing programs, Uplift consistently shows up for the people we serve in meaningful ways.

Congratulations on this milestone, Uplift Community Alliance. We're grateful to do this work alongside you, and we encourage others to learn about and support the difference they're making in our community.

Some of our favorite days are the ones spent with volunteers. Thank you to the Conduent team for joining us this Recovery Month.

The Conduent crew spent the day at our Rose Park residential campus, transforming one of our group rooms with fresh paint. A room that constantly sees people come and go is now bright and refreshed, making the space more inviting for the people who gather there for groups and classes.

One volunteer shared that it was a meaningful way to spend time with coworkers outside of work while giving back.

Thank you, Conduent, for spending your Saturday with us and for helping create the kind of spaces where people can rebuild their lives. 🎨

Thank you to Bank of Utah for supporting students in our community this school year.🎒

When we shared that families we serve had children in need of school supplies, the Bank of Utah team responded right away, providing backpacks, notebooks, and classroom essentials for students from elementary through high school.

A backpack full of supplies means a child can walk into class ready to learn. We're grateful for partners like Bank of Utah who show up for our community again and again.

We're proud to recognize R. Harold Burton Foundation for their generous support of First Step House's Client Assistance Fund.

Their support helps us respond to real-time needs along someone's path to stability. Whether it's a pair of shoes for someone who has worn holes in theirs, or a housing deposit that would otherwise be an impossible barrier, this resource allows our team to step in when an unexpected expense stands in the way of stability.

One week ago, we opened the doors of KWB Apartments, and 71 of our neighbors began coming home. 🏠

We're still so grateful for everyone who made that day possible. Thank you to our partners at Housing Connect, to the Salt Lake Chamber for leading the ribbon cutting, to Bonneville Builders for helping make the day happen, and to the state, county and community leaders who joined us. We're honored that KWB Apartments carries the name and legacy of Kerry W. Bate, longtime past board chair of First Step House and former executive director of Housing Connect.

A big thank you to Mary Crafts and the First Step Forward Committee, to our welcome kit partners, and to the 50 volunteers who assembled and delivered 67 welcome kits so no one walked into an empty room. On the outside of the building, Brooklyn Ottens gave KWB Apartments "The Dream Quilt," and Mette Blackburn Photography captured it all.

Sometimes small moments carry the most meaning. 🍦

Earlier this month, Program of Addiction Research, Clinical Care, Knowledge, and Advocacy joined us at our Rose Park location to host a Root B**r Float social in celebration of Recovery Month. For some of our residents, it was the first float they'd had in years, and a sweet reminder of how far they've come.

Recovery usually starts with something small and is built one moment at a time, through connection and community. A conversation over a sweet treat. A quiet reminder that you belong. Thank you, PARCKA, for showing up and sharing the afternoon with our community. 💛

Our Director of Housing & Mental Health Services, Jared Ferguson, joined KSL News Utah's Inside Sources to discuss the opening of KWB Apartments, First Step House's fourth permanent supportive housing community in Salt Lake City, developed in partnership with Housing Connect.

KWB offers 67 apartments for people leaving homelessness, with on-site mental health care, case management, therapy, and 24-hour support. As Jared explained, the team practices assertive outreach: when they don't see a resident for a couple of days, "they're going up, knocking on their door, inviting them to chat."

The results speak to why the model matters. Residents build strong bonds and support one another, rather than being isolated across the city. It reflects our belief that housing paired with real services is what helps people stay housed and build lives of meaning, purpose, and recovery.
