“THE MOST GENTLE PEOPLE I’VE EVER MET”

Sarah Hensley is talking about people she supervises in boarding homes. These are people with severe and persistent mental illness. She wants all of us to treat them with basic human decency, not fear. Why does she care so much? “Because I was one of them.” Her compelling story in this edition of Odyssey House Journals. This month, we're highlighting Kween Faamausili, Behavioral Health Tech Supervisor in our Men's Mental Health Program!

Kween has been with Odyssey House for 2 ½ years, beginning as a Behavioral Health Tech in our Women's Mental Health Program before advancing into her current role as BHT Supervisor. It was her own supervisor who encouraged her to apply for the position, recognizing qualities that would help her thrive in the role.

On a typical day, Kween facilitates invitation groups to help new clients acclimate to the program, assists with medication management, and supports clients with their day-to-day needs. For many individuals, she serves as a consistent presence of support and stability during a time of significant change and uncertainty.

“I love it. Just being part of making a difference for them goes a long way, even if you’re just listening; some men just want someone to listen to them. So being part of their journey and helping them overcome their trials and tribulations – to help them better themselves when they’re out there on their own – It’s an amazing journey. I love being a part of it!”

Thank you, Kween, for being a steady source of support for the clients in our Men's Mental Health Program. We're grateful for the care you bring to your work and the positive impact you have on those around you!
