What a night!

On Thursday, friends of Project Zawadi gathered in Saint Paul to celebrate 25 years—and it was everything we hoped it would be: stories, laughter, music, dancing, old friends, new friends, and a whole lot of Tanzania in Minnesota.

One of the most special moments was unveiling the 20-foot mural created from the ideas of students in Tanzania—a vision of the future they want for their schools and communities, and a beautiful reminder of why we do this work.

And what an incredible response. Together, you donated and pledged $52,542, surpassing our $50,000 goal and supporting both Project Zawadi's work today and our Legacy Fund for the future.

But the evening was about much more than a number. It was about the extraordinary community that has grown around Project Zawadi over 25 years—students, families, Tanzanians, donors, volunteers, board members, friends and supporters around the world. We’re also deeply grateful to Boa Safra Ag, whose generous support as our presenting sponsor helped make this celebration possible.

What a community. What a celebration. And what a way to begin the next 25 years.

One week from tonight.

Earlier this year, students in Nyamuswa worked with a local artist to imagine what education and opportunity mean to them — and what they hope for their future.

Then they helped turn those ideas into something pretty remarkable.

We're not showing you the finished product yet.

Next Thursday, at Project Zawadi's 25th Anniversary Celebration, we'll unveil it for the first time in Minnesota.

And that's only part of the evening: Tanzanian food, live East African music from Joe Shalita and the Global Music Alliance Band, drinks and w**e, stories spanning 25 years — and a celebration that's shaping up to be a very special night.

It started with two students.

Twenty-five years ago, Project Zawadi began by helping Adam and Ismail go to school. Then there were a few more. And a few more. Over the years, hundreds of Tanzanian students have received the opportunity to continue their education.

Today, Project Zawadi's work reaches far beyond student sponsorship, working with teachers, schools and communities across Tanzania.

On September 24, we're getting together in St. Paul to celebrate 25 years — and we'd love to have you there.

It started with two students.

Twenty-five years ago, Adam and Ismail were Project Zawadi’s first sponsored students.

From those first two students, Project Zawadi has grown to support hundreds of students and to work alongside teachers, schools and communities across Tanzania.

On September 24, we’re getting together in St. Paul to celebrate 25 years—and where the work is headed next.

25 years. One village. Quite a celebration.

Back in March, we celebrated Project Zawadi's 25th anniversary in Nyamuswa, the village where it all began.

We wanted this first celebration to belong to the community that has been part of Project Zawadi from the beginning. So we had a 5K run, football, music and dancing, food, games, enormous inflatables that I'm pretty sure had never before appeared in Nyamuswa — and a whole lot of kids having a very good day.

Thousands of people have been part of Project Zawadi's story over these 25 years: students and parents, teachers and staff, volunteers, community leaders, donors and friends. Many of them were there that day.

There are a lot of stories from the celebration that we'll share in the weeks ahead. But for now, I just love these photographs — especially the first one. To me, it captures the joy of the day better than I ever could.

We are immensely grateful to all those who were so generous this month to help us set up the next 13 Model Schools for success!

We not only met our goal, but we also EXCEEDED it with a very meaningful gift in memory of one of our donors. "This donation is in memory of Ian who would have been excited about the next phase of work."
