Alan Olson presented a program titled "Cleaning and Gleaning – Cemeteries" at the September Synnøve-Nordkap Lodge of the Sons of Norway meeting, focusing on improving the appearance and preservation of family cemeteries through cleaning and straightening headstones, supporting genealogy research and cemetery information. Olson, an engineering graduate and active member of Norwegian organizations, developed his interest in cemeteries at Fort Snelling.

The October Program.
Why was October 9 chosen for Leif Erikson Day? Because the ship Restauration, coming from Stavanger, Norway, arrived on October 9.
As a teenager, our own Leif Erickson was chosen to be Leif Erickson for the first Leif Erikson Day. He will present his story, starting with his selection, his experiences in Washington D.C., and a clip of him speaking at this occasion.

Time: 7 PM
Location: Gustavus Adolphus Lutheran Church, 1669 Arcade St in St. Paul.

Our September 9th meeting will kick off with Cleaning and Gleaning– Cemeteries with Alan Olson.
Many of us visit and attempt to improve our family cemeteries, and it is largely an attempt. We will learn about the knowledge that can be gained from cemeteries for our genealogy records, how to clean up years of grime from headstones, how to straighten headstones, and a lot of cemetery information that is new.
Alan Olson is a White Bear Lake graduate, an engineering graduate from South Dakota State University, and is employed in the engineering field. He has recently become more active in Norwegian organizations. His interest in cemeteries started at Fort Snelling.
Time: 7:00 PM
Location: Gustavus Adolphus Lutheran Church at 1669 Arcade St in St. Paul.

From the Landmark Center's May/June Newsletter.
"200 Years of Norwegian Immigration to Minnesota" -
Before Minnesota even earned its star on the U.S. flag, Norwegian immigrants were already shaping its story, bringing rich traditions, hardworking spirit, and a deep love for community that still echo through the state today. This June, take a walk through history with New Land, New Life: Norwegian Immigration to Minnesota, 1825-1925, an immersive exhibit presented by the St. Paul Sons of Norway. You'll find it in the Butler Room (Courtroom 326) where stories of courage, culture, and new beginnings come to life."
