With a release date in November, Frankeberger’s book—kind of a play, kind of a novel—filters Antigone through q***r theory and contemporary philosophy, bringing us uncannily close to the perennial nature of power and hubris. Based on Ghassan Kanafani’s novella, Return to Haifa is set in 1967, when some Palestinian refugees living in the newly occupied territories could visit their homes before their expulsion from them in 1948. Saeed and Safiyya return to Haifa hoping to discover something about the child they left behind nearly two decades ago, and they discover their son has been adopted by an Israeli couple and now serves in the army.

Mizna is offering two sponsored registration for Sudanese artists for the Paperheart day-long writing retreat, which will be held by Hala Alyan and Safia Elhillo in Brooklyn, New York on Saturday, October 17 from 10am to 4pm.

To apply, please fill the form below by October 11, 11:59pm ET. This opportunity is available to Sudanese-identified writers, and preference will be given to writers who would otherwise unable to afford the registration fee.

The opportunity will be given on a first-come, first-served basis to eligible applicants. This scholarship covers only the registration fee.
