Thomas Avra '27 spent much of his life moving from place to place. Through every transition and difficult season, he learned to look for people who feel like home.

That shaped both his decision to come to Bethel and his decision to study social work.

From coaches who cared about him as a person to friends who do life alongside him, Thomas found the kind of community he hopes to offer others someday.

For a long time, Deacon Corey Lashawn Boyd GS’21, GS’26 wasn’t sure college was something he would ever be able to do.

School had always been hard. He was diagnosed with a learning disability as a child, struggled academically, and heard more than once that higher education might not be in his future.

He kept going anyway.

Today, Corey has earned two graduate degrees, serves as chief equity officer for the State of Minnesota, and is an ordained deacon.

Earlier this month, Bethel’s PA students gathered for the 2026 Physician Assistant Pinning and White Coat Ceremony, recognizing first-year students as they prepare for clinical rotations and celebrating graduating students as they begin their next chapter.
