May was Mental Health Awareness month, and there are things you can do to help your kids build their capacity to weather the ups and downs of life. The Child Mind Institute calls this mental health fitness.

The 5 skills they highlight are: 1) Understanding Feelings 2) Relaxation Skills 3) Understanding Thoughts 4) Managing Intense Emotions 5) Mindfulness.

Check out their guides on these foundational skills which are divided into elementary, middle and high school age groups with age-appropriate informational videos and suggestions.
