Today, on International Day of the Girl Child, we honor the power and potential of every girl. At the Ann Bancroft Foundation, we are committed to uplifting girl-identifying and gender-expansive youth as they turn bold dreams into reality. Through grants, mentorship, and transformative experiences like the Girlhood Summit, we amplify their voices and leadership.

Meet three incredible Trailblazers who are redefining what’s possible for girls across Minnesota! Continuing our series for International Day of the Girl Child, we’re spotlighting Cora, Ciara, and Amari—each of whom turned their dreams into reality with support from the ABF grant.

From bringing robotics to the world stage, to embarking on epic ski adventures in British Columbia, to discovering new talents at Destination Imagination, these young leaders show us what happens when girls are empowered to dream big and go after what inspires them. Their journeys remind us: when we invest in girls, we unlock a world of adventure, confidence, and lifelong learning. Let’s keep opening doors—together.

Minnesota girls and gender-expansive youth can apply for grants of up to $1,000 to pursue a dream, goal, or experience that matters to them.

Say hello to Caroline Saxe, ABF’s new Communications Intern!

Caroline is a senior at St. Catherine University majoring in Communication Studies, and she’s passionate about making sure everyone feels seen, valued, and heard.

To introduce herself to the ABF community, Caroline is sharing three lessons she would give her younger self, including a reminder we could probably all use: It’s okay to be a work in progress.

HAPPY MONDAY! School is back, backpacks are packed, routines are taking shape, and a new year of learning is well underway!

On November 7, hundreds of girls and gender-expansive youth in grades 6–12 from across Minnesota will gather for a FREE day of connection, inspiration, hands-on activities, youth-led talks, and so much more.

And you don’t need to be a current or past ABF grantee to attend. The Girlhood Summit is for ALL girls+!

Every step forward can lead somewhere new.

For Trailblazer Fellow Ava Limberg, those steps have included patience, determination, growth, and one very special horse.

Through her Trailblazer Fellowship Grant, Ava was able to begin professional training for Brother, her 3-year-old horse, and purchase a saddle that fits him well. Now, she’s continuing his training herself, with hopes of competing in barrel racing events in northern Minnesota.

And she’s discovering just how much she’s learning along the way.

“Every day has been another stepping stone in the right direction.”

Gloria Steinem. A trailblazer. Unapologetically herself. A force who changed what was possible for generations of women and girls. What a truly extraordinary life and legacy.

Gloria used her voice and influence to elevate other women and their stories, including our founder, Ann Bancroft, whom she featured on the cover of Ms. magazine in 1987.

At ABF, when we look back on nearly 30 years, we see Gloria’s legacy reflected in girls and gender-expansive youth across the state discovering their voices, pursuing bold dreams, and expanding what they believe is possible.

Sweet dreams, Gloria. Thank you for helping generations dream bigger.
