April 2026 is the 30th anniversary of the first production by the Lex-Ham Community Theater - The Neighborhood on the Hill - a set of monologues by John Solensten.

A lot has happened since that first production, but many things have stayed the same.

Lex-Ham is committed to, as the saying goes, "Good stories, told well". The theater has always chosen powerful theatrical works such as Shakespeare's Antony and Cleopatra, Ben Hecht and Charles MacArthur's The Front Page, Bertolt Brecht's The Caucasian Chalk Circle, or most recently This Is Not A Dream by contemporary Ukrainian playwrights.

The Neighborhood on the Hill was a partnership with Concordia College in Saint Paul. The theater has always emphasized community building as a key focus. This focus includes having a relationship with St Paul Central's theater program, local businesses, non-profit organizations in the area, and local experts to come in for talk-back sessions after performances.

2026 is a rough era for theaters of all types. Young audiences are content to stay home and watch TikTok videos. Funding for the Arts has been cut drastically at the Federal level. Inflation has raised the costs of putting on full productions.

As Lex-Ham enters its 31st year, we hope to continue to provide opportunities for local residents to participate and to present this powerful art form to touch, challenge, and inspire.

Gottlieb Biedermann surprisingly finds himself hosting in his home several gentlemen who insist that they are not arsonists. However, they keep storing in the house materials that look suspiciously like items used to start a huge fire. Biedermann convinces himself that these gentlemen would certainly not lie to him. Lots of material for a great conversation.

The event starts at 6:00 p.m. with a potluck supper. 1184 Portland Avenue, Saint Paul. Everyone who comes gets to read.
