This 27-minute documentary provides a raw, personal look at the devastating impact of occupational cancer on firefighters. Firefighters face significantly elevated cancer risks, with studies showing a 9% higher diagnosis rate and a 14% higher mortality rate from cancer compared to the general population. The perspective from the survivors was hard to watch. Losing someone to cancer is something no one wants to see happen, but we often lose sight of the pain and suffering survivors face post-treatment.

Labs underway for the PEBBLE Pilot Study! PEBBLE, short for PFAS Exposure and Bone Biology across the Lifespan and Environment, seeks to understand whether exposure to PFAS (“forever chemicals”), which are commonly encountered in firefighting settings, may be associated with changes in bone metabolism and biological aging processes. The team has been out collecting labs of new study participants. More to come! 🫡
