The Christian Food Bank is proud to be a location site for the ELK COUNTY MILITARY SHARE FOOD DISTRIBUTION program. Thanks to the efforts of dedicated volunteers, Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest PA, and primary coordinator Mike Groll of the Elk County Veterans Advocacy Network, nutritious foods are now distributed bi-monthly to veterans and their families in need, including surviving spouses of deceased veterans.
The next Military Share distribution is Wednesday, September 23, 2026 at 11 am at the foodbank, 817 S Michael St., St. Marys, PA 15857.

WHAT WE NEED TO KNOW ABOUT CYCLOSPORIASIS

Cyclosporiasis is a food borne illness related to fresh produce. The CDS recommends the following to protect you and your loved ones:
Wash hands with soap and water before and after handling or preparing raw fruits and vegetables.
Wash all fruits and vegetables under running water before eating, cutting, or cooking.
It's important to thoroughly wash produce even if labeled pre-washed.
Scrub firm fruits and vegetables, such as melons and cucumbers, with a clean produce brush.
Cut away any damaged or bruised areas on fruits and vegetables before preparing eating.
Cooking can kill the parasite. Since washing alone cannot guarantee the parasite's removal, cook produce to a temperature of at least 158 degrees Fahrenheit.
Refrigerate cut, peeled, or cooked fruits and vegetables as soon as possible (within 2 hours).
