On this sunbathed, scorching Florida day in May, Rich Dettra — Advisory Council Board Member for The Salvation Army of St. Johns County, part owner of The Ice Plant, and realtor with Endless Summer Realty — took time out of his busy schedule to serve our community in a hands-on way.

The Salvation Army Corps building at 1425 Old Dixie Hwy. had experienced ongoing drainage problems in the parking lot whenever heavy rains came through. With donated tubing from Tom Coates Construction and plenty of hard work, Rich dug and installed a French drain to solve the issue.

Mission accomplished — the water is draining properly, and the parking lot is ready for the next Florida downpour. We are grateful for community partners like Rich and Tom Coates Construction, whose generosity and willingness to serve make a lasting difference.

Thank you to these faithful ladies who made peanutbutter and jelly sandwiches for the boys and girls club.
