Kathleen Vande Berg passes away September 6, 2026
A prominent music educator, conductor, and community arts leader in St. Augustine, actively contributing to local music and cultural initiatives. Kathy Vande Berg has played a significant role in fostering arts, music, and cultural activities in St. Augustine, combining her extensive experience in music education with community leadership.
Professional and Community Involvement
Kathy has been Vice President of Romanza and Chair of the St. Augustine "Romanza Festivale of Music and The Arts" since 2014, having joined the Romanza Board in 2011. She contributed to planning and overseeing major cultural events including, the "St. Augustine Celtic Music and Heritage Festival," and St. Augustine’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade, among others.
Music Education and Leadership
She served as Collaborative Accompanist for the North Florida Women’s Chorale, Music Director at St. Cyprian’s Episcopal Church, and formerly conducted the St. Augustine Community Chorus and the St. Augustine Chamber Singers. Her career spans roles as an instrumentalist, accompanist, choir director, and music educator.
Awards and Recognition
Kathy has received several honors including the ROWITA Award (Recognizing Outstanding Women in the Arts), the International Women’s Day award from the Enterprising Women’s Leadership Institute, and recognition by local cultural societies for her community contributions.
