She was promised a job as a nanny in the home of a
wealthy family.

But sadly that was a lie.

Like many girls promised a good job, Jasmine was actually taken and sold to a brothel.

This is where she now lives with her young daughter.

Every day she is afraid for her safety.

The reality of life for women and girls in Myanmar

In Myanmar, severe patriarchal norms, deep structural barriers, and ongoing conflict heavily marginalize women and girls. They remain extremely vulnerable to exploitation through s*x trafficking and forced labor in places like casinos or massage parlors.

This is why we work in Myanmar and focus on human trafficking prevention.

We work to get “upstream” of the problem and equip women and girls with the tools and skills they need to be safe and free – so they never have to experience the trauma of being trafficked.

Living in poverty in Myanmar, Ma San* had come to believe that “life is suffering.”

Overwhelmed by being the only provider for her 4 children, Ma San was just barely surviving.

When our local team first met her, Ma San kept her distance.
But over time she was curious and joining a She Is Safe Group in her village.

Your partnership helped her gain a strong community of support and be equipped with vocational training and leadership skills.

Ma San learned how to make and sell handbags, creating a small business and steady source of income for her family.

For the first time in years, Ma San could imagine a better future for herself and her children.
