Roswell Historical Society Our mission is to collect, preserve, share and promote the history of the city of Roswell

We operate a research library & archives, which are available by appointment on Wednesdays and Fridays between 10:00am-2:00pm. The Roswell History Museum is free and open to the public Wednesdays through Saturdays from 11am-3pm.

Historic Roswell has been beautifully captured through the lenses of our community! 📸

The Historic Roswell Photography Competition & Exhibit, co-sponsored by the Roswell Historical Society and the Roswell Photographic Society, will conclude after Saturday, August 26.

With 40 incredible entries, 18 photographs were selected for the exhibit, and 3 talented photographers were chosen as prize winners!

Held in honor of our country’s upcoming 250th anniversary, this special competition celebrated the history, architecture, and character that make Roswell such an extraordinary place.

Join the Roswell Historical Society for a special evening with Dr. Jennifer W. Dickey, professor of history at Kennesaw State University, as she discusses her book, There’s Lots to See in Georgia: A Guide to Georgia’s State Historic Sites.

Discover 16 historic sites representing more than 1,500 years of Georgia history, from the Woodland Period through the 20th century. Dr. Dickey brings extensive experience in historic preservation, including work with the National Park Service, the Historic Preservation Division of Georgia, Berry College, and Kennesaw State University.

Thanks to a recent donation, it now spans five decades - from the 1950s to the 1990s - and even includes 2007. These yearbooks offer a glimpse into the students, traditions, and everyday life of generations past.

Inspired by ✨opening night ✨of Quilters, A Broadway Musical at the Roswell Cultural Arts, we've unfolded some history just upstairs in the Roswell Archives.

This 1834 quilt comes from the Amariah Hembree family collection, echoing the spirit of heritage and storytelling through fabric.

As we close this chapter of summer, we invite you to visit the Roswell History Museum to learn and reminisce about Sun Valley Beach Park through a featured painting by Linda Mansell Martin – generously on temporary loan to us through August 29, 2026.

The park was founded in 1950 on Joe C. Mansell's property, located off Alpharetta Highway, halfway between Roswell and Alpharetta. What started out as a fishing spot expanded into a variety of recreational amenities such as three lakes, a sandy beach, horseback riding, roller skating, bowling, and a snack bar. Its Board of Directors included architects James E. Barker and Chuck Cunningham, builder Bob Patten, and Jasper Dolvin. Amid the shifting landscape of the Civil Rights Movement, the property was sold in 1965 and ultimately closed in the late 1960s.

We would love to gather stories from all perspectives to fully capture and preserve this site's multifaceted history.

Last Wednesday, the Roswell Rings celebration officially went into the books. Gathering together to mark the 250th anniversary of the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence was a truly special moment for our community.

Thank you to everyone who stepped away from their busy days to stand with us, look back on our history, and ring out for the future.
