Today marked the last heavy squat session of the training cycle for our five Big Dogs heading to Manchester, England for the AWPC World Championships! 💪🇺🇸

The guys also got to break in their brand-new Big Dog Barbell Team USA singlets, complete with their nicknames across the back. They looked incredible, and the energy in the gym was even better!

A huge thank you to our anonymous donor for making this gear possible. Your generosity means our athletes will proudly represent the good ol' USA in style on the world stage.

The atmosphere today was electric as everyone cheered each other through one final heavy squat day. The hard work is nearly done...

Next up on our road to Manchester is Taylor Cheek!

Taylor is putting the BIG in Big Dog Barbell! After becoming the first Big Dog to total over 800 pounds, he's continued to push his limits and is putting up monster numbers in training. We had a BIG training day today! All five Big Dogs heading to Manchester came together and put up some serious weight as they prepare for the AWPC World Championships!

The atmosphere was electric, with everyone cheering each other on and celebrating every lift. Days like today are what make this team so special—and make all the hard work so much fun!

Now, let's introduce the athlete who helped start it all—Dave Githutu.

Dave is returning to Manchester, England, where the Big Dog Barbell movement truly began. In 2022, Dave won both the American Powerlifting Federation - APF World Championship in the typical 18–19 division and the Special Olympics AWPC World Championship. Watching Dave compete on the world stage inspired us to dream bigger, and when we returned home, Big Dog Barbell became an official 501(c)(3). Dave didn't just win world titles—he lit the fire that started this movement.

Now, four years later, Dave is heading back to Manchester to continue inspiring others and showing the world what people with intellectual disabilities can do.

George is quickly becoming one of the rising stars in Special Olympics powerlifting. At Nationals in Utah, he set a new American Powerlifting Federation - APF AWPC World Record deadlift of 319 pounds while competing at a bodyweight of just 140 pounds! His hard work, determination, and love for the sport continue to inspire everyone around him, and we couldn't be more proud to have him represent Big Dog Barbell and Team USA at the AWPC World Championships in Manchester, England.

Next up on our road to Manchester is Amiri Abraham!

Amiri will be representing Big Dog Barbell at the AWPC World Championships in Manchester, England. One of the hardest-working athletes in the gym, Amiri is always ready to train, compete, and chase new personal records.

Around Big Dog Barbell, Amiri is also famous for something else—his BIG post-lift hugs! After a successful lift, there's a good chance Coach Josh is about to get tackled by a celebration hug that puts his bad hamstring to the test. Fortunately, the hugs are worth it every time.

Amiri brings joy, determination, and an incredible competitive spirit to our team, and we can't wait to watch him compete on the world stage.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be introducing you to the five Big Dogs who will be representing Big Dog Barbell and the United States at the AWPC World Championships in Manchester, England!

At Big Dog Barbell, we believe financial barriers should never prevent our athletes from pursuing their dreams. Through the support of our community, we help cover travel expenses for our athletes and their families so they can compete on the world stage.

🎓💪 Big Dog Nation is celebrating three incredible High School graduates — Taylor, George, and Jake!

These three have proven that success isn't just built in the weight room. They have shown the world that they have both the brains and the brawn, balancing academics, athletics, and life while continuing to chase their goals.

We've watched them grow stronger under the bar, more confident as leaders, and more determined in everything they do. Their diplomas represent years of hard work, perseverance, and dedication, just like every rep they've completed in the gym
