I'd like to present a thought process or mindset if you will... Right now, A lot of people are throwing around saying that transgender people are mentally ill.
We can combat what they say by quoting the DSM, Showing them memes or other informational stuff..
But I'd like to present this in a different way.
Alright, so let's go with their thinking a moment.
"Transgender people are mentally ill."
Okay, So do you believe that mentally ill people deserve to get the treatment to help them get better?
Is there response is that they don't agree with gender affirming care, Then they are saying that they believe that some people don't deserve treatment for what they classify as a mental illness.
They say that there are only 2, male and female. That there's only XX and XY.
Without even trying to argue gender, People with down syndrome have an extra chromosome. They can't argue that there's people with down syndrome. They don't say That people with down syndrome are confused. They no longer call them mentally ill. They support treatment.
Another way I have seen this put that I really liked was;
" It's just basic biology"
You're right, it is. But this is more than basic. Basic is learning about primary colors. Red, green, blue, yellow.
And then, something widely accepted is that there is more than basic colors. Magenta, burgundy, navy, forest, mustard...
Should we go back to just accepting that there's only primary colors? Because, you know, that's just basic color Spectrum. If you're only going to accept the basics, then you can't pick and choose which ones are acceptable and which ones aren't.
Ignorant people need to be corrected in the right way. Just arguing with them isn't doing any good. Presenting to them information doesn't teach them how to learn.
Telling your story doesn't change their mindset.
If somebody's not interested in horror, telling them a horror story isn't going to gain their attention.
It all needs to be packaged differently. It needs to be presented in a way that interests them.
Personally, there have been dozens of people that kept telling me over and over their ignorant beliefs.
Regarding transgender matters, I would tell him to look up the term inters*x.. or to look into kleinfelter syndrome.
When they themselves actively went and looked for the information is when they learn something not just when they were listening to me talk to them.
Don't put aside people's views about what's basic and what isn't it.
To a point, they are correct. Yes there are basics.. But then there's advanced.
Colors aren't just primary. There's a spectrum.
Math isn't just addition subtraction and division.
There's more than just algebra.. Calculus, trigonometry, Quantum math.
There's more than just houses.
Office buildings, mansions, Commercial stores.
There's more than just first aid in medicine.
People who have the stance that it's just basics are screaming for help in being educated but they need to be educated in the right way.
They are just resistant in getting the proper treatment they need. You can't force it on them, they have to have acceptance first.
So instead of being angry or letting them get under your skin, Realize that they need help and if you're a good person, you're open to the idea of helping somebody in need.
Don't put your finger in their face telling them off, point instead to a resource for them to learn from.
