Living with a traumatic brain injury can affect everyday life in ways that other people may not always see or understand.

That is why connection matters!

RCDS hosts a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Support Group in Vero Beach on the first Wednesday of every month, creating a space for people to connect, share experiences, ask questions, and support one another.

Whether you are adjusting to life after a TBI, looking for encouragement, or simply want to be around others who may understand what you are going through, this group is here for you. 🤝

In this reel, Ken talks about the Equipment Loan Closet and the range of items that may be available — from basic equipment like crutches and walkers to more expensive mobility and accessibility equipment.

Availability can vary, but if RCDS does not currently have the item you need, that does not always mean the conversation ends there. The team may be able to place you on a waiting list or help look for other options and resources that could meet your need.

The goal is simple: help people access equipment that can make daily life safer, easier, and more independent.

Peer support creates space for people with disabilities to connect through shared experience, encouragement, practical insight, and understanding. It is not about telling someone what to do. It is about listening, relating, and helping someone feel less alone as they work through challenges and decisions.

When everyday tasks start getting harder, sometimes the challenge is not you. It may be the way your home is set up.

Are stairs becoming more difficult? Is the bathroom harder to navigate safely? Are doorways too narrow for a mobility device? Would grab bars, ramps, or other changes make daily routines easier?

Home modifications can be one way to reduce barriers and make a home safer, more accessible, and easier to navigate.

RCDS can help you explore possible options, resources, and next steps based on your needs. You do not have to wait until something becomes unmanageable before asking what support may be available. ♿

Sometimes helping feels like the polite thing to do, but when it comes to someone’s wheelchair, mobility device, bag, or personal space, the best first step is simple: Ask.

Grabbing a wheelchair, moving a mobility device, or stepping in without permission can take away someone’s control, even when the intention is good.

A quick, “Would you like some help?” gives the person the choice. If they say yes, listen to how they want to be helped. If they say no, respect the answer.

Good disability etiquette starts with recognizing that independence also means having control over your own body, belongings, and mobility. ♿

A white cane is more than a mobility tool. It supports independence, navigation, and safety for people who are blind or have low vision. 🦯

One important etiquette reminder: if you see someone using a white cane and think they may need help, ask first.

Do not grab, pull, or redirect someone without permission. A simple, “Would you like some assistance?” gives the person the choice and keeps them in control of how they move through the world.

Respect starts with asking, listening, and following their lead.
