United Way Space Coast was proud to help connect PNC Bank with Early Head Start of Brevard programs across Brevard County to support early childhood learning and literacy.
Thanks to a generous grant from PNC Bank, new books will be shared with young children and families through Early Head Start locations and Little Free Libraries throughout the county, helping expand access to age-appropriate reading materials and foster a lifelong love of learning among young children and their families.
We are grateful to PNC Bank for its commitment to promoting literacy, supporting school readiness, and investing in the success of our youngest learners. Your Vote Will Shape Florida Communities

Communities across Florida rely on a network of nonprofits, local programs, healthcare services, childcare providers, and public resources to support neighbors in times of need.

According to the Florida Nonprofit Alliance's research, Amendment 3 could lead to service reductions that Floridians would feel almost immediately.

Potential impacts may include:
âś… Fewer after school and summer childcare options
âś… Reduced access to health and wellness services
âś… Longer wait times for assistance from EMS
âś… Less support for domestic violence survivors
âś… Fewer programs for seniors and people with disabilities

Before you cast your ballot, take time to learn about Amendment 3 and how it could affect the services and programs your community depends on. This graphic summarizes revenue loss projections for all of Brevard County.

United Way Space Coast is proud to highlight Women's Center of Brevard, a trusted community resource that has supported survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and other violent crimes for more than 50 years. Through crisis intervention, victim advocacy, counseling, emergency shelter, housing assistance, and safety planning, Women’s Center helps individuals and families heal, rebuild, and achieve long-term stability.

As we observe Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we recognize the critical role Women’s Center plays in providing compassionate, trauma-informed care to survivors throughout Brevard County.

One of the programs supported by United Way Space Coast is the Sexual Assault Victim Services (SAVS) Program, which provides free and confidential support through a 24-hour crisis helpline, victim advocacy, referrals, and assistance navigating medical and legal systems. Trained advocates are available to accompany survivors during forensic examinations, ensuring they have support every step of the way.

In 2025, the SAVS program:
Served 361 survivors
Completed 5,058 victim service interactions
Coordinated 52 medical examinations
Responded to 768 crisis hotline calls
Provided more than 1,000 advocacy hours

Women’s Center of Brevard also offers counseling services for survivors and individuals facing challenges such as anxiety, depression, grief, and trauma, as well as housing and self-sufficiency programs that help individuals and families secure safe, stable housing and work toward independence.

Looking for a way to help? Women’s Center of Brevard welcomes volunteers in a variety of roles, including victim advocacy, front desk support, violence prevention education, thrift store assistance, and group service projects. Donations of non-perishable food, hygiene products, household essentials, and other needed items also help support survivors on their path to healing.

Together, we can create a safer, stronger community where survivors have the support and resources they need to thrive. đź’ś

Less Funding. More Need. What's at Stake for Florida Communities?

On November 3, Florida voters will decide on Amendment 3.
While property tax cuts may sound appealing, many Florida nonprofits are concerned about what reduced local revenues could mean for the communities they serve.

The challenge isn't just the potential for less funding. As costs continue to rise, more families are already turning to nonprofits and community organizations for help.

That could mean:
âś… Reduced access to programs and services families rely on
âś… More pressure on local nonprofits and community partners
âś… Greater strain on support systems serving children, seniors, and individuals in crisis

According to the Florida Nonprofit Alliance survey highlighted in this graphic, many organizations anticipate both reduced funding and increased community need if Amendment 3 passes.

Strong communities depend on strong local services.

In Case You Missed It:

UWSC President and CEO Kathryn Rudloff spoke with Florida Today about the potential impacts of Amendment 3 on local social safety net services and the nonprofits who provide many of the services.

“The Florida Nonprofit Alliance says the amendment's passage would "likely
cause significant challenges for the nonprofit sector," forcing local
governments "to make difficult, constitutionally mandated budget
decisions."

That's a major concern for Kathryn Rudloff, president and CEO of United
Way of the Space Coast. The nonprofit funds programs across 33 partner
agencies and 44 different programs in a social safety net of services,
ranging from after-school and summer programs for children to domestic
violence and trauma recovery to services for seniors.

Amendment 3, Rudloff said, potentially restricts the ability of local
governments to fund specific community needs.

Unfortunately, she said, the amendment shifts the power to the state, "and
it becomes the state deciding what localities can and cannot spend their
millage and their property taxes on."

"It's going to give the state the power to dictate what can and can't be,
to put limitations and restrictions … I just fundamentally disagree with
that," she said.

"I think the government closest to the people should have the flexibility
to decide the types of services and programs they want to offer their
constituents."

To be sure, Brevard is a generous community, Rudloff said, with booming
industries such as tourism and space and growth in manufacturing
companies.

"Everybody can do a little bit of something and when we all do support,
that's when our community's at its best," she said.

"But — and this is a big but — private philanthropy cannot replace public
investment in tax dollars … in America today, fewer than 25 percent of
individuals actually give philanthropically."

Taxes, she said, obligate everyone "to pitch in a little bit to make that
big impact for the community."

Brevard nonprofits warn that Amendment 3's passage could slash local funding, leaving vulnerable residents with reduced access to needed services.

How Could Local Communities Be Affected by Amendment 3?
Community services often depend on partnerships among local governments, nonprofits, businesses, and residents.

Research by the Florida Nonprofit Alliance's notes concerns that reduced local revenues could affect areas such as:
• Healthcare access
• Services for seniors
• Support for families in crisis
• Programs for people with disabilities
• After-school and summer childcare programs

Every community is unique, which is why understanding local impacts is an important part of the conversation.

Great teachers change lives, and we're grateful for the partners who help us celebrate them.
As part of United Way Space Coast's Second Grade Reading Incentive Program, volunteers from L3Harris Technologies assembled and packed 118 Teacher Appreciation Kits for second grade teachers across all 26 Title I schools in our community. These kits are one way we recognize the educators who help build strong reading foundations for our students every day.
Special thanks to the L3Harris LIFT Malabar Team for donating their time and assembling these thoughtful gifts for our dedicated teachers. Together, we're supporting those who inspire the next generation of readers and learners. 💙
