Countdown to Halloween! 👻Consider offering non-edible goodies to trick-or-treaters. Halloween is one of the trickiest days of the year for children with food allergies. Even candies without the allergen can cause anaphylaxis if they were made in a facility that uses the allergen in another food. Some ideas for non-edible treats include glow sticks, spider rings, vampire fangs, pencils, bubbles, bouncy balls, finger puppets, whistles, bookmarks, stickers and stencils.

"As a parent, you know your child best. Keep a look out for fears and anxieties about Halloween. The best way to handle fear and get a toddler ready is to discuss what's going to happen.

Reading books to your child about trick-or-treating—and Halloween in general—are great ways to help that discussion. Halloween parades, events at the zoo or botanical gardens, pumpkin festivals and activities at children’s museums are other fun options to help small children get into the Halloween spirit. You might even want to have your child practice dressing up in their costume before the big day. Toddlers need to know that Halloween is just for fun and the scary stuff is all pretend.

If your little one doesn't want to participate in Halloween, then let that be OK. There is always next year, and 12 months can make a big difference!"- Dina DiMaggio, MD, FAAP (Healthy Children)

A NEW ADVENTURE IN LEARNING IS HERE! 📚 🦖🚀

We’re excited to celebrate the ribbon cutting of the brand-new Learning Trail and Little Free Library at Lipscomb Community Center, made possible through a generous grant from the Space Coast Association of Realtors! Located just outside the Center – home to Club Esteem Inc., and adjacent to the playground, these new additions invite children and families to learn together.

Come check it out! Take a stroll along our new STEAM-focused Learning Trail and enjoy the Little Free Library where children can take a book and leave a book.

In addition to these exciting outdoor learning opportunities, Club Esteem received a mobile STEAM Learning Launchpad, bringing hands-on portable science, technology, engineering, arts, and math experiences directly to children in their afterschool programming.

Through the Soar by Four community programming, these resources help expand access to literacy and science in targeted “desert area” ZIP codes across Brevard County. The mobile lab includes classroom book sets from Scholastic, science exploration kits from Lakeshore Learning, engineering and design activities from School Outfitters, Airtoobz, Portable Xray Light Table and more!
