The Rochester Model Railroad Club dates back to 1939 and is one of the oldest such clubs in the country. We are located in the basement of the First Universalist Church 150 South Clinton Ave. We meet every Monday night 7:00-9:00 PM except holidays. The Seneca Valley Lines is the name of the current HO scale model railroad. The equipment, scenery, buildings, and towns of the Seneca Valley Lines (SV

L) are primarily based on the Lehigh Valley Railroad. This is blended together with traces of the Erie, Delaware, Lackawanna, & Western, New York Central and a fair amount of artistic license. Operation of railroading from Jersey City through the anthracite region of northeast Pennsylvania, and the rolling hills of western New York to the busy city of Buffalo. While our open house isn't until March, you can get your "train fix" on by going to see our friends at the Genesee Society of Model Engineers open house this Saturday from 10-3 in Oakfield with multiple operating layouts.

The GSME is the group that hosts the Great Batavia Train Show and soon to be Greater Rochester Train Fest at the Dome in Henrietta the Sunday before our open house.

We'll be at the RIT Tiger Tracks Train Show & Sale, so stop by, say hi, and pick up a flyer for our open house in March.

What do you do when you have an older, but well-estblished and top-notch looking layout that was built by some very talented model railroaders and the state of the hobby and technologies in it have advanced so much since it was built and you want it to be enjoyed by many more for decades to come?

Take a listen to this podcast where our President and Vice Presedent talk about bringing our historic layout up to current standards and recommended practices and preserve what made it what it was known for and enjoyable for years to come.

We're the best kept secret in Rochester!

This Old Layout - Rochester Model Railroad Club with Ed O'Connell and Rob Bartels is now available. Learn more about this episode and listen online at aroundthelayout.com/163 or wherever you listen to your favorite podcasts.

Sometimes, an old layout is worth saving, especially one that is rich in history and has been touched by some model railroading greats. This is the story of the Rochester Model Railroad Club and their efforts to take their 1980's layout from DC to DCC and make it a layout that is modernized and interactive. Club members Ed O'Connell and Rob Bartels tell us about taking on this challenge and how, in the end, they will have a layout that continues to tell the story of the Lehigh Valley.

On behalf of the membership of the Rochester Model Railroad Club, I like to thank those of you who braved the cold and visited our open house this weekend. We hope you enjoyed yourself, and if you did, please share your experience with your friends and family. If you visited on Saturday and shopped our "previously enjoyed" equipment sale, I hope you found something useful for your layout or to spark your entry into the hobby.

We had close to 500 visitors this weekend, it was nice to see many familiar faces as well as meet some new friends. If you're someone who likes to plan things well in advance, our next show will be on March 7th & 8th, 2026, so go ahead and mark your calendars now.

If you are interested in learning more about the hobby or becoming a member, feel free to visit on a Monday evening from 6-9 PM. Use the stairs on the corner and not the side door of the church on Court St.
