Yesterday, the Rotary Club of Greece had the pleasure of hearing from Leah George-VanScott of the Greater Rochester Enterprise (GRE).

Leah brought great energy, a wealth of knowledge, and an important reminder: Rochester is doing big things—and we should be proud of it!

There is so much happening across our community, from business and innovation to organizations and people working every day to make Rochester a stronger place to live, work, and grow.

Thank you, Leah, for sharing your perspective, your enthusiasm, and your Rochester pride with us! We’re proud to be part of a community that continues to move forward.

Yesterday, the Rotary Club of Greece joined Al Sigl, District Governor Lisa Norwood, fellow Greece Rotarians, Van Putte Gardens, and members of the Starbridge and Empowering People’s Independence communities for the ribbon cutting of the new sensory garden.

The Rotary Club of Greece was proud to provide funding for the garden, while Van Putte generously donated their time and expertise to design this beautiful space.

Our Club President, Chuck, officially cut the ribbon and recognized Van Putte for their incredible contribution to bringing this project to life.

We’re grateful for the partnerships that make projects like this possible and create welcoming spaces for the entire community to enjoy.

Today, Greece Rotary came together with the United Way and the Greece Central School District to build 250 hygiene kits for students in our community.

What made today especially meaningful was seeing so many people step up to help. Afterward, the kits went back with the school community to reach students who need them most.

Because having the essentials shouldn’t be a barrier to learning.

These kits provide more than personal-care items. They give students dignity, confidence, and one less distraction from the classroom - so they can focus on what matters: learning, growing, and being a kid.

This is what community looks like: people, organizations, and schools coming together to meet a real need and make a tangible difference.

Thank you to everyone who rolled up their sleeves and helped us make these 250 kits possible.

Today, Greece Rotary was honored to celebrate the renaming of Braddock Bay as Donald J. Riley Park at Braddock Bay, recognizing the lasting impact of former Greece Town Supervisor and longtime community leader, Don Riley.

Don has been a Greece Rotarian for 39 years, living out the spirit of Service Above Self both through Rotary and through his years of service to our community. We are incredibly proud to call him a fellow Rotarian and grateful for all he has done for Greece.

It was a privilege to celebrate this special milestone alongside Don and his family, friends, and community members.

A special thank-you to Jeff McCann and his team for making room for Rotary at the last minute and welcoming us into this meaningful celebration. Jeff continues to bring new energy and positive momentum to Greece, and we appreciate his commitment to our community.

Congratulations, Don! Your service has made a difference, and your legacy will continue to be part of Greece.

We had a great turnout at Greece Rotary this week as Charles Baylis from the Military History Society of Rochester joined us to share the history of the Military Museum.

We learned about Rochester and Greece’s contributions to our military history; from Kodak cameras and the Kodak “BEANO” hand gr***de to the Odenbach Ship Factory right here in Greece. We even got to see a BEANO in person! Does anyone know why it’s called the BEANO? We do.

It was a great reminder of the skill, innovation, and sacrifice that went into serving during wartime. With so many Rotarians in our club who have served, this presentation was especially meaningful.

Our club donated our “Happy Dollars” to support the museum’s work preserving these stories and our history.

The museum is free to visit, with donations suggested, and I encourage you to check it out. When making your charitable giving decisions, please consider supporting the Military History Society of Rochester.

Thank you, Charles, for sharing these stories with us! Thank you Rotarian Georgia Rush for connecting us to this organization.

Two Greece Rotarians attended the Rotary District 7120 One Rotary Summit today to exchange ideas on how to increase membership, engagement, and visibility within our community. So many great Rotarians in one room that care about the community and believe in “service above self”.
