CURE Childhood Cancer Association

CURE Childhood Cancer Association For 50 years, C.U.R.E. C.U.R.E. Childhood Cancer Association was formed in Rochester, NY in 1976 by a group of parents who lost their children to cancer.

has supported Greater Rochester Families facing pediatric cancer and chronic blood disordersโ€”lifting burdens from diagnosis through treatment and beyond. They wanted to provide support to parents going through the same experience, as well as raise money for cancer research. Today, C.U.R.E. is the only organization in Rochester focused solely on meeting the emotional, social, financial, and educati

onal needs of children diagnosed with cancer and chronic blood disorders. The C.U.R.E. Childhood Cancer Association is there to help and meet the very specific needs of families who are caring for a chronically ill child.

This , we want to recognize a tireless advocate of C.U.R.E. who rolls off of our Board of Directors after serving 6 years at the end of the month. Brian Wainwright first learned about C.U.R.E. through our Young Professionals group, which was led by fellow Bonaventure Graduate, Brittany (Charles) Gold. He has dedicated his accounting and compliance expertise to C.U.R.E. for two full terms (6 years!) and has been a member of the Executive Board for several years. We are so grateful for his attention to detail and dedication to being fully engaged with C.U.R.E. He has been a wonderful volunteer at several events, even coordinating the Tacky Sweater Event the last several years. Please join us in thanking Brian for his time, efforts and talents all these years!

Did you know? Something as small as an aluminum can tab can make a big difference for a Family facing childhood cancer ๐Ÿ’›

Our Friends at Hearts for Hailey have been collecting can tabs year after year to help support C.U.R.E. Families in a meaningful way. Once collected, the tabs are brought to the scrap yard, where they are exchanged based on weight, and the proceeds are donated back to C.U.R.E. to help provide parking vouchers for Families traveling to and from the hospital.

So start collecting those can tabs and send them our way to be a part of the Keeping Tabs on Cancer With Hailey program!

One of the core values we hold dear at C.U.R.E. is humility. Itโ€™s the idea that the work comes first, and the applause comes second. The person we would like to recognize now is the living, breathing definition of that value. For nearly ten years, this person has been a tireless advocate for our mission. This person doesn't shout about his contributions from the rooftops, and has never looked for a pat on the back. This person simply shows up, rolls up his sleeves, and gives.

When we look back at our fundraising events over the years, our Outstanding Community Partner for 2026 hasnโ€™t just been a casual participant; he has been a whole-year supporter, year after year. Whether we are in the middle of event season or in the quiet months in between, this personโ€™s commitment to our stability and our growth never wavers.

But his advocacy goes so much deeper than financial or event support. This person is a champion of our message. Whenever the moment is right, he thoughtfully shares the mission of C.U.R.E. with his professional and personal networks. He doesn't just ask people to support us; he helps them understand why we matter. Because of his genuine voice, he has garnered vital new support for the work we do, opening doors that we couldn't have opened without him.

Perhaps most meaningful of all, though, is where else Rob shares this mission. He has brought C.U.R.E. home. He has shared our purpose, our heart, and our work with his children and his family. To pass down the values of compassion, community support, and advocacy to the next generation is a profound gift. It means the world to us that this family walks alongside the C.U.R.E. family.

To our 2026 Outstanding Community Partner, R.P. Damico & Associates, Inc you have spent nearly ten years being quiet about how much you contribute, but right now we are going to be loud for you. Thank you for your tireless dedication, your unwavering humility, and your deep, compassionate heart.

๐‚.๐”.๐‘.๐„. ๐Œ๐•๐ ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ”:

This personโ€™s journey with us started with a literal spark. Many of you may know him through the Roc Holiday Light Show, where he used his creativity to shine a massive, brilliant light on the reality of childhood cancer (and raise a LOT of money to help support the Families we provide assistance and love to). But he didnโ€™t just want to raise awareness from a distance; he wanted to be in the heart of the mission.
When he joined our Board of Directors, he brought more than just strategic thinking. He brought a "whatever it takes" attitude.

โ€ข He is our muscle: Whether itโ€™s moving furniture, loading up trucks for events, or being the first person on a cleanup crew, he never considers a task "beneath" his role. Heโ€™s also wildly talented and handy โ€“ installing custom butcher block countertops to SEVERAL offices in our new space after he did the demo work himself.

โ€ข He is our voice: In addition to dedicating himself to advocating for our Families, he has shown up for our Team, too. This individual has shown a genuine interest to learn more about the roles our Team plays and to be involved however he can.

โ€ข He is our heart: Perhaps most importantly, he has made a profound effort to truly understand the "why" behind our work. This individual makes it a priority to show up for events and participate โ€“ not just the fun, celebratory ones, but the difficult ones. It shows a level of caring about what are doing.

"Itโ€™s one thing to support a cause; itโ€™s another thing entirely to let that cause change you."
Itโ€™s apparent to everyone who works with him that this individual believes in this mission down to his core. He has been truly touched by his engagement with our organization, and in return, he has touched the lives of countless Families in our community.

Thank you for being a light to our Families and the C.U.R.E. Team and for continuing to advocate for our Families, lighting the way for them to navigate during even their darkest times. You are the definition of an MVP.

๐ŸŒŸPlease join us in recognizing Mike Broke, our 2026 C.U.R.E. MVP!

There are people who do their jobs well, and then there are people who truly change the experience for Families walking through incredibly difficult moments.

This is one of those people. At a time when life feels stressful and you are unsure of how your child is going to respond to so many changes, you quickly realize what incredible support you have.

His calm spirit, gentle voice, and incredible patience have a way of making children feel safe, even during procedures that can feel scary and overwhelming. Heโ€™s the person kids look for โ€” the one showing up with a fun toy, a distraction, a smile, or simply a comforting presence when they need it most.

But what makes him even more special is that his compassion doesnโ€™t end when his shift does. He gives his own time to volunteer with C.U.R.E., always willing to step in wherever help is needed. He gives our Families a familiar face, a sense of comfort, and genuine empathy in every interaction.

We are so grateful for the heart he brings to this work and the difference he makes in the lives of so many children and Families every single day.

We are honored to present the Outstanding Strong Partner Award to Colin McKean- the Child Life Specialist in the outpatient clinic at Golisano Childrenโ€™s Hospital. Please join us in sending Colin some love!

Our 2026 Rookie of the Year is a true hero. He has physically moved countless boxes and pieces of furniture, he coordinates tasks to keep us on track, and on any given week, you can find him outside, generously mowing the lawn to make sure our new home looks beautiful. What truly sets him apart isn't just the physical labor. Itโ€™s his foresight. He is always three steps ahead, anticipating our needs and thinking of things we havenโ€™t even realized we needed yet. Underneath all that tireless hard work is a deeply caring and compassionate soul who has shown, through every single action, just how much he truly cares for our organization and the Families we serve.

This individual recognizes the love and dedication our Team pours into everything we do. He makes an effort to get to know the Team, support them and be available to them. This volunteer makes every effort possible to attend our events โ€“ not just the fun ones. He comes to the events that honor our angels and assists with set up and clean up. We find that clean up at events can be a challenge to have extra hands with. He has made the extra effort to fill in these gaps and be helpful where we may be in need. Gaining an understanding of the true spirit behind our organization, the mission of what we do every day, is essential to understanding the drive behind the C.U.R.E. Team. He gets it. And that means the world to all of us.

๐ŸŒŸPlease join us in celebrating our 2026 C.U.R.E. Rookie of the Year: Sam Meloni

We would like to recognize a family and business that reminds us what true generosity looks likeโ€”not in grand gestures meant for attention, but in quiet, meaningful acts that bring people together.
When we think about what makes an event successful, we often picture the decorations, the schedule, or the turnout. But the heart of any gathering is the people who give their time and energy to make it happen. And thatโ€™s exactly what this family and their business have done.

They gave their time when it would have been easier to stay home. They showed up, cooked and donated an amazing lunch for our Bereaved Families at our very first annual bereaved family picnic. That meal was a vehicle that helped foster comfort, connection, and community. They also donated their amazing sausage at our annual Remembrance Ceremony that was held this past November for our Bereaved Families.

Every year, the C.U.R.E. Team makes dinner at the Ronald McDonald House as a Team Bonding activity, but also a way to give back to a group that does so much for local Families. Our 2026 Committed Champions donated many of the ingredients we used to create Homemade Garbage Plates for those staying at the Ronald McDonald House.

In addition to all of that, they organized a โ€œround up for C.U.R.E.โ€ fundraiser at the cash register in their place of business providing monetary support that we have in turn been able to use to provide for our families.

๐ŸŒŸIt is our honor to recognize Barry, Liz and Eric Fischer of with the 2026 C.U.R.E. Committed Champion award.
