With schools back in session or soon to be for some, please keep our children safe and always stop for school buses!

🛑 SPOT THE STOP: Keep Monroe County Kids Safe 🚌
Did you know that in Monroe County, a school bus with its stop-arm deployed is passed by a moving vehicle nearly 30 times every school day?*
These violations put children at risk as they travel to and from school.
Since the Monroe County School Bus Safety Program launched in 2023, more than 19,000 citations have been issued to motorists who illegally passed stopped school buses.
Spot the Stop is a data-driven injury prevention initiative between the University of Rochester Medicine Kessler Trauma Center and the Monroe County Department of Public Safety () to raise awareness for school bus safety in Monroe County.
⚠️ When you see a school bus:
🔸 Slow down when yellow lights are flashing
🔸 Stop completely when red lights are flashing and the stop-arm is extended – regardless of what direction you are traveling in or what kind of road you are on.
🔸 Stay alert for children entering or crossing the roadway
🔸 Talk with your kids about school bus and pedestrian safety
Every stop-arm violation is preventable. Every child deserves a safe trip to and from school.
