The Gates Chili Independent Winterguard organization is thrilled to announce Mackenzie Dennis as the new Lead Instructor of the Independent Open ensemble. Mackenzie brings an impressive blend of performance experience and proven instructional leadership to Gates Chili. Her performance career includes Phoenix Winterguard, Spectrum Winterguard, Patriots Winterguard, and drum corps experience with the Brigadiers, Empire Statesmen, and White Sabers, along with dance experience with the world class Matrix Indoor Percussion Ensemble and the Terpsichorean Dance Company.

Since 2013, Mackenzie has been a dedicated member of the Phoenix Central School District Marching Arts programs, serving as a choreographer, technician, instructor, and caption head. As Director of the Phoenix HS/John C. Birdlebough High School Winterguard from 2023–2026, she led the program to two consecutive top 6 finalist appearances, including a silver medal at the 2026 WGI World Championships. In 2026 she was welcomed to the Gates Chili Independent Open team as a choreographer. She is known for her high expectations, and has developed groups that are distinguished for their technical excellence, and superior performance qualities.

Outside of winterguard, Mackenzie enjoys weightlifting, running, dancing, playing pickleball, and spending time with her husband, Luke, and their dog, Nollie. She looks forward to building strong relationships with students while helping them grow as confident, expressive performers.
