To compost, or not to compost... that is the question! 🤔 When deciding what is okay to compost, items should not only be organic material but also typically plant-based.

Animal fats, meat, dairy, and leftover pasta salad are not suitable for normal composting, although they can be composted using bokashi methods. If it once had leaves, that’s a good starting point!

Here is our July schedule.

Approximately 500 bicyclists will be coming through Gates on July 13th with the state sponsored Cycling The Erie Canal ride. We've decided to hold a clean-up the morning of July 4th so that we can continue cleaning the canal path.

Today is that our last chance to get to canal path looking good.
The state-sponsored Cycling the Erie Canal Tour leaves Buffalo tomorrow morning. They will be staying overnight in Medina, and we'll pass through Gates tomorrow.

At 9am, we will be meeting at 911 brooks Avenue to clean the canal path from there to Scottsville Road.

If you can't make it this morning, considered taking a walk on the canal path today or early tomorrow morning with a trash bag.

HOT WEATHER AND HOT WATER ALLERT

Hot water from a garden hose can damage plants if it’s too hot. Plant roots are sensitive to temperature extremes, and water that's too hot can stress and damage them. In the summer, water sitting in a hose that's been exposed to the sun can exceed temperatures of 100 °F, which can be very damaging.

In hot weather, water your plants in the morning when it's cooler so more water can reach the roots before it evaporates. If you can't water in the morning, you can water in the late evening before bed, but avoid oversaturating the plants and keep water off their leaves. A good rule is before 10am and after 4pm.
