Since my JCC Open Studio class hasn't been able to meet since March, a few of us decided to meet outside at Highland Park to draw together! Thanks to Susan Flamholtz Trien for thinking this up! Miss my class - glad to see those who were able to join us today!

JCC OPEN STUDIO SPOTLITE: Paula Fahy

What do you love about the JCC Open Studio:
The JCC Open Studio is a welcoming place to paint, get helpful feedback and meet new friends. As an amateur painter, I enjoy an environment where all skill levels are appreciated. You can create a masterpiece, or just have fun experimenting with a new medium.

Tell us a little bit about yourself:
I retired three years ago as a teacher of human services from Monroe Community College. I have always enjoyed learning new skills, and trying new things in the company of creative people.

JCC OPEN STUDIO SPOTLITE: though we are not able to meet in person, we are still creating and looking forward to resuming our studio! This week's spotlite: Susan Trien. Read more about her here!

What do you like about JCC Open Studio? I’ve attended the JCC open art studio for the past five years. It is a very relaxed, collegial group under the direction of Allison Roberts, who is an inspirational artistic mentor. Each Monday, I enjoy our artistic oasis, where we laugh, create, critique each other, enjoy lunch together, and keep each other on our artistic toes. Allison provides wonderful advice and encouragement, giving us a non-threatening environment in which to create and grow in the medium of our choice.

Tell us a little bit about yourself: I have been a writer and lover of art all my adult life. I have authored several books, was public relations director at The Strong Museum for 23 years, have taught undergraduate journalism, and covered the arts for the Democrat and Chronicle as a freelance reporter. I recently became an art docent, leading tours at the Memorial Art Gallery.

What do you like about JCC Open Studio? At first, I went to Open Studio because it motivated me just to paint. Now along with that, added benefits emerged, like building friendships, sharing creative ideas and art techniques, and enjoying each other’s art. Come join us!

Tell us a little bit about yourself: Hi, I am a lifelong learner, having family, careers and now wanting to explore art. God has given us all talents that just have to be identified and developed. I love the look of watercolor but am trying acrylics and other mediums.

Our very first post! JCC Open Studio Spotlites! Meet the JCC Open Studio participants! About us: Every Monday we work side by side creating works of art. Participants work on their own pieces - at their own pace - using various mediums. It’s a relaxed, creative and supportive space for people of all levels to work in. Interested in learning more about us? PM me or contact the JCC and ask about Monday Painting (Open Studio) classes! (585) 461-2000. *This week’s spotlite is Lorraine Fusare. What do you like about JCC Open Studio: The Open art studio is a hidden treasure and all are welcome. Each of us have our own style and medium, and those who choose additional art forms are welcomed as well. We look at each other’s work, welcome suggestions by Allison Roberts, our mentor, and celebrate often. The program includes sharing lunch together, special days, and celebrating each other’s progress. Allison welcomes visitors to check the class held on Mondays 10-2 pm. Students plan their own schedule. For me, I say to my friends, “Don’t mess with my art day! Thank you, JCC. For supporting us.

Tell us a little bit about yourself: My previous experience in the art world consisted of one high school class and one required an art course in college. I re-visited the art world through adult education classes offered in the local high school, nine years later. It was the beginning of a wonderful journey, excellent teaching and sharing which continues to this day. When I found the Open Art Studio at JCC, four years ago, I was rejuvenated to begin yet another journey.
