Today is World Health Day 🌍

And here’s the truth we don’t say loud enough, health isn’t one-size-fits-all. Health is meeting people where they’re at. Health is dignity. Health is access. Health is survival.

Harm reduction IS healthcare.

Harm reduction is making sure someone has a clean syringe so they don’t get an infection. It’s also putting naloxone in someone’s hands so they can save a life! Harm reduction is sharing a warm meal, a safe space, a real conversation or connecting folks to care when they’re ready, not when the system demands it.

At RAW we believe ANY positive change is recovery and that NO one should have to “earn” care, NOBODY is disposable.

We believe in enabling breathing because dead people can’t recover.

Today, and every day, we fight for a world where compassion leads, stigma ends, and people are supported Whenever. Wherever. Forever 🧡

Yesterday was Easter and while many of our incredible volunteers were spending time with their families, RAW was BUSSSSYYYY!!!

So busy, in fact, that we didn’t even get a chance to snap a single picture!

But honestly… that’s the work and we love it!

It’s showing up.
It’s meeting people where they’re at.
It’s radical hospitality.
Radical love.
Radical kindness.

No conditions. No judgment. No exceptions.

This image felt fitting because it’s the reminder we carry every single day. Love people. All people. Exactly as they are.

To our volunteers, community members, and partners… thank you. Truly. None of this happens without you. Every meal, every conversation, every moment of connection is because of this community.

We see it. We feel it. And we’re endlessly grateful 🧡

🚨 There’s a new threat in the drug supply… and most people have never even heard its name. 🚨

A recent The New York Times article highlights the rise of nitazenes… a class of synthetic opioids so powerful they make fentanyl look predictable.

Let that sink in.

These substances were actually created decades ago but never approved for medical use because they were simply too dangerous. Now they’re showing up again… not labeled, not tested for, and often mixed into other drugs without people knowing.

And here’s the reality:

• They can be many times stronger than fentanyl
• They’re being found in fake pills, powders, and even vapes
• People are often using them without any idea they’re there
• Overdoses can happen fast and with very small amounts

This is exactly why harm reduction matters. Because this isn’t about “bad choices.”
This is about a drug supply that is unpredictable, unregulated, and increasingly lethal.

We cannot tell people to “just stop” when:
• The supply is contaminated
• Detection is limited
• Even experienced users can’t tell what’s in their substance

We can:
âś” Expand access to naloxone
âś” Support drug checking and testing
âś” Provide accurate, real-time information
✔ Meet people where they’re at without judgment

At RAW, this is what we see every single day. And this is why we keep showing up.

People deserve stay alive, informed and have support without barriers! Harm reduction is not optional anymore… it’s survival.

We’re so excited to share that AltBar has chosen us as their grassroots organization they donate to for the month of April!

Their featured drink, the Mind Your Own Bees Knees, is a bright, spring-inspired treat made with gin, lemon, honey, and lavender bitters… and yes, it’s just as delicious as it sounds 🍋✨

But here’s the real magic:
👉 50% of every drink sold goes directly back into our work at RAW

That means every sip helps us continue providing:
🧡 Meals and basic necessities
🧡 Harm reduction supplies
🧡 Outreach, connection, and support

AltBar is a sober, inclusive space where everyone is welcome, whether you’re in recovery, sober-curious, or just looking for a good vibe without alcohol.

✨ Stop in anytime this month
✨ Bring a friend or come solo
✨ Support a local business that supports the community

This is what mutual aid looks like in action.
This is what community care feels like.

We just read this piece from Smoke Works and whew… it hit home!

At RAW, we see this every single week. When we hand someone safer use supplies, we’re not “encouraging use” we’re opening the door.

We’re saying:
you matter right now, exactly as you are. And guess what happens next? People talk. People trust, they come back and stay alive. That’s how relationships are built and how bridges to care are actually formed.

We’ve watched folks go from being completely disconnected from healthcare… to testing their supply, to asking questions, to setting goals, to engaging in treatment on their own terms.

Not because they were forced or shamed but because someone met them with dignity.

That’s harm reduction.

Bigg love and gratitude to Smoke Works for continuing to push this work forward and for supporting programs like ours doing it on the ground every day.

This isn’t “extra.”
This isn’t “controversial.”

This is basic, life-saving care.

And we will keep showing up with it.
Whenever. Wherever. Forever 🧡

We keep hearing about cartel arrests like they’re going to “fix” the overdose crisis… but that’s not how this works.

Read the article below 👇🏽

This article breaks down something we see EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. in the streets:

The drug supply isn’t static. It’s agile, global, and constantly changing.

So when one source gets disrupted?
Another one pops up. Stronger. More unpredictable. More dangerous.

That’s how we ended up with fentanyl.
That’s how we ended up with xylazine.
That’s how people end up with wounds, amputations, and death… not from one moment, but from repeated exposure to a toxic, shifting supply.

Let’s be real…

đźš« Arrests alone are not prevention
đźš« Punishment is not treatment
đźš« Disruption is not stabilization

If anything, it often makes the supply more chaotic and more deadly

Meanwhile, over 100,000 people are dying each year in this country from overdoses

So what actually saves lives?

âś” Harm reduction
✔ Meeting people where they’re at
âś” Access to MOUD
âś” Safe supply conversations
âś” Overdose prevention centers
âś” REAL relationships

This isn’t about politics.
This is about people.

We don’t need more symbolic wins.
We need solutions that actually keep people alive long enough to have a chance.

At RAW, we see it. We live it. We respond to it every week.

🧡 Any positive change
🧡 Whenever. Wherever. Forever.

The synthetic opioid market is agile and deadly. An addiction medicine specialist explains why cartel arrests do not change the clinical reality of fentanyl and xylazine.

Every single week, sandwiches are donated with love, and this week was especially meaningful.

Kim, the mother of Lance, who left this world far too soon, made lunches in honor of Barb and Nate. Nate also passed away far too soon.

Overdoses are preventable.

These acts of love matter. These lunches do more than fill stomachs. They help us build trust, create connection, and begin bridging gaps to care.

Relationship saves lives. Compassion saves lives. Community saves lives.

Another gnarly example of community showing up in the most radical and incredible ways 🧡

Huge shoutout to Friends of The Satanic Temple - Western New York (FOTSTWNY) and California Brew Haus for hosting the Satanic Sock Hop last night!!

Because of their efforts, 160 pairs of socks are now headed straight into the hands (and onto the feet) of our neighbors who need them most.

Let’s talk about it for a second… socks might seem small, but out on the streets they are EVERYTHING.
Warmth. Comfort. Dignity. Health.

This is what love in action looks like.

We are endlessly grateful for folks who use their platforms, creativity, and community to give back in such a meaningful way.

It truly takes a village 🧡

Another beautiful Sunday in the books at RAW 🧡

We spent the day doing some good old-fashioned spring cleaning and organizing, and wow did our community show up!!

We gave out so much today, everything from clothing and blankets, to pet food, hygiene products, and all the harm reduction supplies. Meeting people where they’re at, every single time.

None of this happens without YOU.
Our incredible volunteers.
Our generous community members.
Our partners who continue to show up with us, for us.

A HUGE thank you to Pizza Wizard for your ongoing monthly donations, we appreciate you more than you know!!

And to our amazing cooking team and sandwich makers… you are the heartbeat of this work. Food is a love language, and you help us build real relationships out there every week.

And another rocking thank you to Satan's Sock Hop and their fundraiser last night that benefited RAW!!

Endlessly grateful. Truly.
This is what community looks like.

MOUD SAVES LIVES. Period.

We stand with the Drug Policy Alliance in calling out what should not even be up for debate!

Medications for opioid use disorder like methadone and buprenorphine cut the risk of overdose death by up to 50%. That is not opinion. That is evidence.

And yet… instead of making access easier, we are watching conversations about adding MORE barriers.

More hoops.
More restrictions.
More people left without care.

Let’s be real about what that means:

That means people forced to travel hours for treatment.
That means people missing doses because of rigid rules.
That means people dying from something we KNOW how to treat.

At RAW, we see this every single week.

People want help.
People try.
But the system is not built for real life.

Harm reduction includes access to medication.
Recovery includes options.
Survival should not depend on your zip code, your schedule, or your ability to navigate a broken system.

If we are serious about saving lives, then we expand access. Not restrict it.

• Expand telehealth
• Increase pharmacy access
• Reduce cost
• End stigma

This is not complicated.

Keep people alive.

That is the starting point for everything else.
