Thank you to all who came out to our first recovery craft group last night! We had way more of a turn out than we anticipated! Everyone's mandala rocks came out amazing! And we learned a bit about the history of mandala creation and its many benefits for mental wellness. Although I'm horribly bad at taking pictures in the moment...we always respect everyone's anonymity when taking pictures except when they volunteer like our good friend Sarah who brought in her own project from home which we LOVED!🤩

Save the Date!
We are thrilled to welcome back Sara Bouchard this September. Her sound installation, "Breathe, River" will run 1-5pm on Sunday, Sept. 20th at the Pump House. See details of the event below:

Artist and composer Sara Bouchard presents an immersive sonic experience: a 4-channel sound installation inside Richmond's historic Pump House!

Sunday, September 20, 1-5pm
Free with suggested donation. All ages.
Preview the piece: sarabouchard.com/works/breathe-river
Arrive any time during the exhibition. Admission is limited to 20 people at a time, so note that there may be a short wait.

"Breathe, River" features a musical composition based on water quality data from the James River, recorded on tenor saxophone by Jason Scott. The work is informed by conversations with aquatic ecologist Dr. Paul Bukaveckas (VCU School of Life Sciences and Sustainability) and reveals the drastic fluctuations of dissolved oxygen levels in the river due to harmful algal blooms. This project was originally presented in 2019 and was supported by a 2018 grant from Richmond CultureWorks. Water quality data is presented courtesy VCU Rice Rivers Center.

Sara Bouchard is a multidisciplinary artist and composer who uses sound, installation and performance to interweave song and the landscape. She received her MFA from VCUarts Kinetic Imaging in 2019 and her BA from Yale University in 2003. She has exhibited and performed internationally, including at The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum (CT), The Center for Book Arts (NYC) and ERES Foundation (Munich, Germany). She currently teaches at VCUarts.
